Gravel no.. i’ve sem firsthand one problem, my anole lunged at a cricket, missed, and got a piece of gravel.. if it would have swallowed it, it would have died... also, supposedly bacteris grow good in gravel

Gravel Yes, I’ve seen that in many aquariums, and they were successful, but there still is a chance that the anole will eat a piece and get sick or die.

Gravel what is wrong with soil. every week sopmebody will post a message asking whether they can use this substrate or that. buy organic sterilised soil. it keeps up the hummidity, doesn’t compact lizards, doesn’t harbour germs as much as bark, doesn’t harm their skin and cause infections like bark and best of all its dirt cheap!!!

Gravel don’t use wood chips! some are toxic, they are no good at maintaining humidity, harbour germs and cause abrasions on anoles’ skin that can get infected. stick to soil, its cheaper and looks better.

Gravel I am having problems with woodchips also. The crickets seem to be VERY good at hiding in the wood chips so it’s hard for them to catch them when they can just hide.Dysturbed

Gravel I wouldn’t count gravel out so soon. I had a group of anoles in a tank with 2 inches of gravel for 4 years and never had a problem. Just make sure it’s the gravel that is made up of the largest sizes not the real tiny ones. Nowadays I won’t use it because the substrate like Jungle Mix and bed-a-beast will actually keep any eggs from drying up before I find them. It’s all up to how you want the setup to look. I liked gravel because it was easy to clean and I would manipulate it so that I had a natural looking pond in the tank. I’ve actually seen my anoles drink from it despite what other have said.

Gravel I use river gravel that I bought at pet shop. Real rocks not the man made fish gravel. No problems after a year
