This is just a guess but do you watch it or handle it a lot.It may be uncomfortable with something watching it.Today I saw a green anole that was brown and when I caught it It continued to be brown. To my inferences it just may like to be brown.

I had a green anole that stayed nice and green all the time until I put a brown anole in with him. I didn’t see either one of them acting threatened, but he stayed brown other than on a few occasions.

Now that I think of it,if you keep the light on during the day it may turn brown to have more absorption to the light. You know the sun heats more objects with a darker color.

Yes so that still sucks I like him green um, I mean the cage is at 83 right now why cant he go green cause it’s plenty room in the cage for him, he is the only anole I house and also no I don’t handle him AT all exception of once a week and that is to clean his cage and change the substrate. I have read on-line that it may mean he is sick but I mean he is still very active he moves around the cage all day jumping and stuff. Can it be the actual THINGS you have in the terrarium like I have 2 sticks that go diagonal across the opposing corners and I have one stick wrapped with fake green vines, he has a half cut log on the bottom he can sit on or go under (which he never does) and he has a bowl of water....this is frustrating I am new to lizards before I had parakeets those I could do lizards are a different story! Emma can you tame anole like a parakeet by say putting your hand in the cage 15 mins a day without actually touching it to get it used to your hand? Also on a side note are Anoles’ intelligent enough to drink from one of the water drippers or no?

Anoles can not be tamed. If you mist your tank three times a day, it will get all the water it needs.

I don’t use water, I just dust the powder on them and feed. They get enough to help them I guess. I feed crix to the water dragons, my anoles and to the beardies, and I have never spray the crix with water before I dust.

I never use water to dust my crix. I just dust them by themselves and it covers them and sticks fine. Not so messy. The leopard geckos, anoles, and water dragons love it! (turtles not so much it makes the water kinda funky)

You can’t tame an anole, they will always have the wild genetics in them. You could hold them for a little while each day and it should be easier to handle once it’s gotten use to you and your touch. And they are intelligent enough to drink the water droplets. In the wild, anoles tend to drink the droplets of dew in the morning.I can never get my anole to drink water from the droplets in the terrarium,I have to pick him up, let them rest on my hand, and form little droplets,He usually drinks it then.

Ok lets go with both theories, its skin turns brown to absorb more light so does that mean my light does not give off enough UVA, just heat? Second theory if it turns brown or green because it feels like it, does that mean the ENTIRE time its awake it feels like being brown? Third sometimes when I feed him after he eats his third crickets his legs and tail turn green briefly then go back to brown. Come on folks I want my green anole back to green please

Read the caresheet!!! Any light that gives off visible light also emits UVA. Your enclosure temperatures are too low. The basking area should be at least 85 degrees (90 is ideal). There should be a temperature gradient in the enclosure from about 75 on the cool side to 82 or 83 on the warm side. He is likely brown because he is trying to absorb heat and warm up. Keeping an Anole in low temperture eventually results in death.

You said earlier it was 83.

You shouldn’t be so rude. Be thankful that people are even giving you advice.

Um, I am not being rude whats the beef son? Look the point is I have done everything to the T and the anole is still "stressed" and brown all the time and I want to know what is maybe the smallest variation we might have looked over that could be causing this, or maybe another person that is having the same problem, as for being rude not at all I am quite friendly and appreciate everyones’ response I think you are interpreting into things that arent there Kumi.
