Is my anole a Female Well im pretty sure its a female. we just got he or she yesterday. When we got her or him we noticed they were like intertwined with each other like wrapped around. Also i noticed she or he does not have a dewlap and is half the size of my male. Also he or she is a dull color and my male s more brighter then her. So can anyone tell me if its a female?
Thanks derek.

Is my anole a Female the dullness doesnt mean its a female, but it probably is a female, the one sure way to tell is that if it has enlarged post anal scales then it is a male. I couldnt find a pic of the underside of an anole but this should help a bit
Male

Female

when anoles are young they all have a line along their spine.
when males grow up theyloose they’re line, but females keep theirs.
male jawlines are longer, while females are shorter.
all males have a deflap, while females dont.

Not true. Both have dewlaps. The females dewlap is smaller. Sometimes the male will keep the stripe. The best way to tell is males have enlarged postanal scales.

Is my anole a Female all anoles posess a dewlap, however the female’s is rather small and is typically only displayed in mating behavior. also, not all males lose their stripes and not all females keep theirs, that is a fairly inaccurate method of sexing anoles

Is my anole a Female
Not entirely true either Coolguy. I have more often seen my females display their dewlaps in TERRITORIAL and DOMINANCE displays over other females than in mating rituals or displays. I more often than not just see the females bob their heads in submission to the male rather than display their dewlap. I have yet to see a female display her dewlap during a mating display, although I am sure it does happen once in awhile. I have just never personally seen it off hand. The only other time I have seen a female display her dewlap towards the male was when fighting over a meal she just "caught" or the female did not want the male invading her space.

Is my anole a Female yeah, ive heard of that i just havent seen any of my females bob at each other before. In my previous cage there was only one male and one female. when they mated the male bobbed and displayed his dewlap to the female, who then displayed the same thing back

Is my anole a Female Than your "female" more than likely IS a female as you suspected Derek. If the anole lacks the postanal pores/scales, then it is most definately a female.
