 Should I Get Another Anole?

I was once a proud owner of an Anole, but I was deadly afraid of crickets. After keeping the Anole for about a half of a year, it somehow died. I realized that I needed a UV light for the Anole, which I didn’t provide. I feel so sorry for the Anole, but I now have a UV light- I’m wondering if I should get another Anole. I’m seriously deadly afraid of crickets, however. What should I do?

i think you should get another anole you didnt know much before but now you have everything it needs. and anoles will also eat mealworms and some times fruit.

Meal worms are not a general food source for the anole.Meal worms have a hard chitinous exoskeleton that may cause impaction when digested. If you choose to feed your anole a meal worm make sure the meal worm has molted first, making it’s body smooth and soft.

I’m sure young mealworms are just fine, if not, check Atrax’s caresheet, I’m sure it mentions mealworms. Also, I am rather afraid of crickets as well, I hate touching them, probably because of the legs, I don’t know, but still, I avoid touching them as much as possible, I have a bucket in my anoles home that I put crickets in, and when I clean the cage, I have gloves. I think you should get an Anole and just find ways around touching the crickets. I have also used tweezers.

im pretty sure his caresheet was against mealworms and said that beatles in general should be avoided. Im not afraid of crickets but i used to be afraid of roaches until i taught myself not to be afraid of them.

howd we get on the catagory of roaches?

by the way if you get a cricket keeper the crickets will go in black tubes and you will be able to just dump a few out of the tubes. thats how i do it.

 Should I Get Another Anole?

Missy Squirrel is correct. I keep a Kricket Keeper, I never have to touch the crickets.

The crickets, wanting to escape, climb up the black tubes because they can’t climb up the sides of the keeper. There’s clear plastic topping each tube, so that you can peek in and see if there’s crickets in there.

When it’s feeding time, you just take out one of the black tubes and tip it into a small plastic bag (like a ziplock bag. I use the bag that the crickets came in) and shake them out of the tube. Don’t shake too much if you just need like 4-5 crickets, count ’em as you go along and then put the tube back in the keeper. Then you just tip the bag’s contents into the tank, and voila, hand-free crickets.

  • Don’t put more than 20 crickets at a time in the Kricket Keeper, because it doesn’t provide that great of ventilation. When a cricket dies, it releases gas that, without being ventilated out, can kill the other crickets.

  • Always gut-load your crickets. This means you feed them nutritious things, like Fluker’s Farm Orange Cube, which is good for providing moisture and food for your crickets. Crickets naturally don’t provide much nutrients for your anoles, so this way they can. Always make sure there is some type of moisture for your crickets (not actual water, they’ll drown in that) but something like the Orange Cube or Fluker’s Farm Thirst Quencher or a carrot, et cetera, because if they don’t get enough moisture, they turn carnivorous and will try to eat each other, or nip at your anole.

  • You don’t want to leave too many crickets in the anole’s enclosure. If you don’t know how many crickets your anole(s) will eat, put the crickets in one at a time (again, you don’t have to touch the crickets. If you lightly shake the bag out at an angle, you can get one or two crickets in the tank at a time). If you put in too many but are still too deathly afraid to touch and remove them, and your anole hasn’t eaten all of them, put a carrot in there to give the crickets moisture, so they won’t hurt your anole.

  • Once a week you’ll want to coat the crickets with a calcium dusting. This is also something available at the pet stores. To dust the crickets, just simply insert a little bit of the powder into the baggy before you give the crickets to the anole.

  • Make sure your UV light is a UVB light. UVB helps your reptiles absorb calcium, and is vital. Although several packages won’t say it, UVB naturally contains some UVA anyway, which will give your reptiles a sense of well being and keep them less stressed. So stick with UVB, getting a UVA bulb is useless and will eventually end up harming your reptile from lack of UVB rays. Stay away from coil bulbs too, they give out varying degrees of UVB and can harm your reptile, even causing blindness. Get a tube bulb instead.

Any light buld that emits light and heat (and incandescent bulb) emits UVA. All you need is a UVB fluorescent and one (or more) regular light bulbs.
