 RIP - Thor

Thor passed away a couple of weeks ago at the ripe old age of 7-1/2 years. He was a robust fellow - 10-3/4" from end to end. Released on Oak Island for a brief time last summer, he was exiled back here for intimidating all of the local males and vastly increasing the local population. The final straw was when he savagely attacked the resident house cat. Upon his return, he continued to father numerous offspring.

He is survived by 37 "children".

aww it sounds like he lived a great life and contributed greatly to the anole population. Way to go Thor! Of course he couldn’t have done it without having an experienced owner like yourself. Good job! I hope my anoles can live such long & happy lives.

Anoles. like all reptiles, continue to grow from the time they hatch until they die. Thus, the older ones are generally the larger ones. The verified record for Anolis carolinensis is 12" and the longest verified lifespan is 8 years, Thor very nearly reached both of those.

 RIP - Thor

I remember you telling me the story of how you obtained Thor (and the interesting stories you told me about him). Sorry to hear he passed away Bob. But hopefully his offspring (if you kept some of them) can now pass on his genes.

As you know, my baby anole Louie passed away. He had a parasitic and bacterial infection which all could not be cured in time, even with treatment... which as you know caused his stunted growth, lethargy, and refusal to eat or drink...poor little guy. I am not giving up though. I am going to try breeding my anoles again now that spring has arrived and hope for better luck with the next batch of hatchlings. Hopefully I can get a healthy hatchling out of my dominant female Yumi this time...Louie was actually Sora’s child from a previous mating (not Buster’s).
