 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

My anole is weak, sleeping most of the time, not eating, some drinking. Very willing to stay on my hand for long periods and sleep there. What is going on with him. I separated him from the others but he has been this way for weeks. Any advice?

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I know what most others will say in response to this so here it is:
We all need more info on their enclosure in able to give any helpful advice. Like size of the cage, humidity, temp, lights, heat sources, substrate. Also, what you’re feeding him & how much. Are you dusting their food with a calcium powder too?

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I’m an anole newb so I can’t help much. Once you post the necessary information, others here will be able to help you much better than I can.

All I can say is I would try not to handle him except for when transferring him from one cage to another, as this can not only stress them out, but if done wrong, can injure them (their toes are very delicate and can break easily, and if held wrong can cause their tail to fall off).

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

well the anole is in a ten gallon tank, with the 3 bulb hooded light that fits over tank, I mist tank daily and feed crickets dusted in calcium powder. Substrate is reptibark. They have hiding rock, vines, camouflage leaves and giant driftwood. How often should I put on basking light for? I always think it gets way too hot to be on more than one hour. My apt is pretty comfortable. What about the sun glo and flourescent light? Should I put weak one back in tank. He is in a small habitat now. I tried fruitflies and misting him 2x a day but he doesn’t eat.

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

you could also try some un-flavored pedialyte.

take an eye dropper and place one drop at a time on the anole’s mouth. this will help to re-hydrate them and give them electrolytes.

also try some peach/pear/squash flavored ORGANIC baby food mixed with some calcium powder, and apply it with the same method as above mentioned.

good luck!!

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

lights should be on all day (at least 12 hrs). You should have a UVB light AND another light as a heat source.
Misting should be 2-3 times a day. I think I’ve read somewhere that the bark stuff is bad to use as a substrate. You need to use an organic soil (no fertilizers or miracle grow type stuff) or those coconut bricks that you see in pet stores. (really hard vacuum sealed stuff that expands with water and covers the entire cage).

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

you can find it at places like Petco, Petsmart, etc.

it comes in a dehydrated brick ( that looks like compacted dirt).

it doesnt really have an odor to it.. unless you get mold growth in it or something dies in it.....

yes, it can be kept wet. i have used it in my mantella tanks before and the humidity is nearly 100% all the time.. it is a great place for wood louse and springtails to live..

combined with a strong light source, you will actually get better plant/mushroom/moss growth with this then potting soil or peat moss...

my anole is drinking the pedialyte very slowly and licking the baby food as well.but it is all very slow. She just does not look good, her skin feels dry. I mist her alot. Now her left eye looks sealed shut and I couldn’t seem to get it open with some water and a cotton pad. Any advice?

Did you take him to the vet? How is he doing?

Also, if you’re having trouble finding a vet that deals with exotics, try here: Link It lists vets from all over the world, and you’re bound to find one that’s closer to you.

 SICK ANOLE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I did take him to the Animal Medical Center and saw a wonderful vet who couldn’t even weigh him he was too tiny. Anyway he gave him treatments and sent me home with tons of stuff to help him through. He thought he would do okay but two days later he died. So you never know. I plan to keep a close eye on my five others.
