OUCH!

that looks like it has been festering for a while. how long has it been like this?

i’m hesitant to recommend anything without first getting some conformation on this, however, i would treat that with either turtle eye drops to flush out the eye, or normal saline that can be purchased at drugstores and usually sold OTC, used again to flush out the eye... and lastly a triple antibiotic without painkiller to help heal the infection.

could this have been caused by a cricket bite? hitting its face on something sharp in the tank? a bite from another anole?

i hope it heals up for the little thing.. good luck!

did you put the 2 new anoles in with your established ones?

i would recommend keeping them in separate quarantine away from your existing collection for at least 30-60 days.. this is to make sure that the new anoles did not and will not give any nasty parasites to the ones you already have....

and as for cleaning out the eye, just make sure to hold the anole gently in your hand at a slight tilt with the head at an upward angle.
flush the eye out, but be careful not to get any in the ear or mouth... and apply the ointment on the outer rim of the eye with a q-tip, making sure not to get any into the eye itself..

good luck !!

I’m an anole newb but I’ve read a lot from sites, so I hope I can at least give some helpful tips toward keeping your anoles safe:

You also want to make sure you don’t have more than one male together, because they’ll fight once they mature. The best way to tell female from male is to gently flip them over and look at their scales near the base of their tail. Males have two enlarged postanal scales, while females are regularly shaped.

Don’t give your anoles any of the big crickets. I read that they should only be given food no bigger than their head. Also, I read that when crickets aren’t hyrdated, they can turn cannibalistic on each other, and even attack your anoles. You should remove any uneaten crickets before you go to sleep, and if you do keep crickets in there for a while, have some cricket food for them. If the food is the dry sort, have something like a carrot in the cage to keep them hydrated.

Hope this helps a bit, and I hope someone can help you with information on treating your anole.

Ah, sorry, you have brown anoles--I’m not sure if the gender identification information is the same for them or not. Atrax27407’s Caresheet in this forum says Cuban Brown Anole females have a diamond shaped pattern from the back of their neck to their tail and that males don’t. When you say yours are brown anoles, do you mean cuban brown? Also, I wouldn’t trust if a pet store says they only carry one gender or have told you the gender of yours, because pet stores often get their facts wrong.

this is the same for bahama browns. Here’s my female:

The green anoles also have a light gray or white pattern/line going down their backs. males usually dont, but sometimes do. Here’s my female green:

I do take out any uneaten crickets..ive seen the damage they can do....i think this owie is actually something that stems from the pet store, thanks for the advice

Googled and found a similar problem a pet owner had with her anole, where there was a bump that had caused the eye to swell and close up. Someone said, "it could be a poisonous plant reaction (you should not be using just anything from your yard, especially if you do not live where the species of Anole is native), it could be substrate in the eye, it could be him being chewed on by crickets (crickets should not be left in the terrarium because they will do that), it could be an infection... there are just too many possibilities."

yes, and with them being so small it’s so hard to find out exactly what it is and even treat them without causing more damage. I hope your anole shows some improvement soon! Keep a close eye and try your best to flush it out.

by the way... I dont see a light stripe or pattern of any kind down your anoles back. I’m also quite new to anoles; but I’m pretty sure that’s a male you have there (based on what I’ve read)
