Do I need to get a (female) companion for my male? Alright.. I have a 20-gallon tank and a male green anole... and I have read that these are solitary creatures, so I thought it would be fine just to have the one. However, someone suggested to me that maybe I get my anole a "girlfriend" or two. Honestly I don’t want one, because then they’ll be trying to mate and lay eggs and.. well... I don’t want anole hatchlings. Can a lone anole live a long and healthy life or does he need an anole companion?

Do I need to get a (female) companion for my male? a companion is not necessary, but i think my male anole is more successful with females and te same goes for the females. I had a male with a female and had my parents/sister take care of my anoles while i was gone on vacation. When i got back, the male was skinny, dehydrated, and had black marks behind his eyes. He died the next day. When he died, the female that was with him did not eat anything for a week straight and became ver skinny. She appeared to be lonely so I got another female roughly her size and a male(quite a bit larger than them). Putting the two new anoles in had an almost immediate effect and brought her back to her old self. I would suggest getting one female(sometimes 2 can be better ironically) but you dont need to. And you would have to buy twice as much food. OveraLL I think that he could still live a great life though.

Do I need to get a (female) companion for my male? If I get him a female, I know they’ll try to mate. What percentage of eggs laid over time actually hatch? I don’t want baby anoles but I’m not going to go around squishing eggs. D: If there’s a chance that they could make baby anoles, I’d rather not get him a companion. To me, it just seems like not spaying your dog and getting puppies--I have no idea what I’d do with a hatchling or more. I guess the point of it all is, I don’t want to have to buy another cage. I’m happy with this setup of a single cage and it’s 20-gallon size.
