 Can someone please help me?

i just got 2 anoles.
we thought they were both females.
but ones a male and ones a female which I know is not good. So we are
getting another female later today when my parents get home from work.
My female is a brown color which I know means she is stressed. she looks
really skinny for some reason and she is sitting at the bottom of her cage
in a water dish with no water in it. Will she be okay? like im worried, should I be?
I sprayed the cage again just to make sure, and she does have f0od in there.

thanks<3

Are they both green anoles? Maybe the female is a brown anole.

I do know that green anoles can turn brown sometimes. Is she stressed out? Maybe the male is being dominate right now and she is just staying out of his way.

Is it warm enough in the cage? Did she get wet when you sprayed the cage? My son’s Louie gets brown when he gets sprayed with water. Did you read the care sheet by Atrax? It is excellant information.

seems to me like it’s either stressed or too cold. My greenie turns brown when I have to do something in their cage, or during the night/early morning when they’re not at their optimum temp. But once the heat lamp is on for an hour or so she’s back to her bright green color.

A sexually active and agressive male can in some cases stress out a female who either has disinterest in the male or just no interest in mating at the time. It very well could be that your male is stressing out your female. There is no harm in housing them together, but as with all species anoles are selective in their mates, as the females just want to chose the healthiest and largest males to produce viable offspring. I originally had 3 females and one male in a large enclosure, but my largest and most recent female I purchased was being rejected by the male and other two females in the home. They just wanted nothing to do with her. I hardly EVER saw her. She was usually a shade of brown, and almost always hiding in the plants near the bottom of the cage or wherever she could hide from the aggressive male and females. When she would try to come up to the top for water or feeding time, she would get chased by my other females and even the male.

So, I had to separate her from the rest of them. Now the remaining 3 (Buster, the male, and my two females Sora and Yumi) are doing great. There is a pecking order, with Yumi being the dominant of the two females and Buster of course being over them, but otherwise they all get along well. If Sora gets in Yumi’s way, she will display her dewlap and chase her away if she is just too close for comfort. As for Daisy, my largest female however, they just simply did not want her in their territory. I found it best to separate her completely from them, and hopefully someday I can get her a companion of her own (either another female or male probably), as I would like for her to breed.

In her case it was stress. Believe me. She has been a lot better off, and more of a tan color instead, since I removed her from the other enclosure with Buster and my other two females.

Other factors can attribute to an anoles coloration. Sickness, if the temps are too hot or cold, stress, etc.

And also, some anoles can still live happy lives but remain brown most of the time or some shade of it. It just depends on the circumstances.
