Where is your UV light..? And their water dish, and the two thermometers and hygrometer? You may know all of what I’m about to say, and I apologize if you do, but here goes: Even though they drink the water droplets you spray on the plants, providing a water dish with shallow water can help them learn to drink water from there, too. Especially good if you may not mist the cage as often as it needs to be (a few times a day). I have noticed my anoles have taken to occasionally taking a drink of water from their water dish. I end up having to refill it every couple of days. You can get a terrarium canopy at the pet store and use a fluorescent UVB bulb in it, and rest the whole thing on top of their cage. It’s important that they get a lot of UV rays like they would from the sun. UVA isn’t as important as UVB--some speculate UVA helps the anole’s state of mind, but UVB is vital to their health. 5% is a good bulb for anoles. This light needs to be on for 12 hours a day. As for the basking light, it too should only be on for 12 hours a day. Bright lights at night can prevent an anole from getting a good night’s sleep, and stress them out. You shouldn’t need a secondary source of heat for the basking side unless the temperature drops to under 60 (and then in that case you can change out the bulb in the basking light for an infrared). It’s important to have two thermometers, one on the basking side and one on the other side of the tank, so you can monitor the temperatures. The hygrometer is to monitor the humidity in the tank. For anoles, you’ll want it to be 50% or higher, and this is typically done by misting the tank a few times a day. You can use an automated mister, water dripper, or just a spray bottle (which is cheapest in the long run if you’re on a budget). |

Also, you can round thermometers and hygrometers (the kind that don’t need to be plugged in) from Amazon, easy. Link And it’s nice to be able to buy for cheaper from sellers of pet stores on there. There’s also water dishes you can buy that have a little bump on one side, so crickets can climb on out. I have one, and a cricket did fall into the water dish once, but then he waded over to that and climbed on out. If you buy a water dish that doesn’t have something like that, I’ve seen in pet stores that they have this funny little ridged ball thing that you can put in the water dish, that allows crickets to climb out. I feel water dishes are important in ensuring your anoles definitely stay hydrated. Glad to hear you’ll be getting the UVB soon. It helps them absorb calcium. Speaking of calcium, what are you feeding them? Gut-loading crickets helps, and dusting them once a week with calcium dusting. Crickets in general aren’t that nutritious for them, which is why gut-loading and dusting them helps your herps. |

Also, I dust the crickets just once a week. Not the crickets in their container, but the ones about to be fed. |

I am in favor of a water dish, like, it helps monitor how much moisture is in the tank. Also it’s a visible reminder: when it is dirty, the area needs cleaned. Sometimes the liz’s run through the water. It is a very shallow glass butter dish with pea gravel in it to prevent drownings. In case the tank is too dry, a water dish evaporates off some moisture. Same with live potted plants. Balanced, healthy way to monitor at a glance, plus misting 2X a day. |

I would recommend putting them in the smaller tank for the time being, at LEAST they are getting their accurate lighting there (they DID have a UV light in their old tank, right??) Also, what kind of substrate are you using? Make sure it does not have bark fines, coconut refuse, fertilizer, perlite, etc. in it. I use peat moss for my enclosure. It works great. Soft and it has nothing in it that can harm the anoles. Here are pics of my enclosure (and anoles for fun!) to give ya an idea of what you could do with your enclosure. Go all out if necessary!!
