How I got my first green anoles, and you?

Last summer I was working at a school. While we were in a classroom I noticed the anoles’ 20 gallon tank. Someone had left the basking light on all night, the deep dish of water was filled with dead decaying crickets, there was no moisture in the tank or live food. I immediately dumped the water. As soon as it was back, clean, in the tank, both (male) anoles licked drips from the outer edges of the bowl. Feeling better, they began to spar by showing dewlaps and bobbing. One was definitely scared of the other, to the point of not eating and thriving. A wrinkled skinny mess! I separated them into two tanks (after taking them home for the rest of the summer.) The one was so aggressive I had to place a barrier between the tanks so they could not even SEE one another. It was very enjoyable to feed them and observe their behaviors, even to clean tanks.
This is when I discovered the RepticZone which gave me all the initial info I would need. THANKS!
I bought 2 females. The shy male (Mr. Cannole) really likes his female and sleeps by sliding his bod up under hers while she is at rest. I think she was stunted and will not ever breed, but they seem laid-back. The healthier female would stand up better with the more-aggressive male. I gave that pair back to the school, but have not heard if they thrived. I think she was gravid at one point. I believe it would take a caring person (like the ones who contribute to the forums here..) to nurture classroom animals for these animals to remain healthy enough to reproduce.

I live in Florida so I catch my anoles.I usually find sick or injured ones, nurse them back to health, and set them loose in my apartment complex.

I’m in Ga and well... you cannot keep green ones as pets. They’re native here, therefore it’s illegal to have them as pets. I have a green one right now though. My husband does HVAC and brought some units home to recycle and found her on one of them. It’s a good thing he caught her for me... a few days later a frost hit and a few times after that too. She was quite thin when we got her. Now she’s all fattened up. So I’ll probably be releasing her soon.
My other is a bahama brown, we got her at petsmart and will be getting her a mate on the 10th from a REPTILE pet store. I was so happy when I found one! Though... the guy there had some of his facts a little off, saying that anoles are "community lizards" and can live with a variety of frogs and other lizards. WRONG... anyhoo.... that’s the story of my anoles.

hey, im no expert on the laws of Georgia but i dont think that it is illegal to keep green anoles anywhere in the US as they are very common and no where near being endangered

That’s what every pet store says. One even said that they called their supplier to order green anoles and they said to check the "list" to see if it’s legal. Sure enough the green anoles were on that list. They all say "green anoles are native to GA, so it’s illegal to keep them as pets". I really don’t know why, but that’s just how it is.

Random decision at Animal House.

I’m the type of person that when I don’t know something I MUST look it up, so with lots of googling (I found lots on how to cook lizards O_O) I finally found repticzone, and boy am I happy, I’ve had my lizards for about a year.
