Okay, I’m not too sure about the light, but you definately need a UVA/UVB light, those and it’s fixtures can be rather expensive. You also need a 10 gallon tank, I don’t know the price there, but mine fairly expensive... You need plants for climbing and hiding (and basking), you need a "warm(hot?)" side and a "cool" side. You also need reptile friendly substrate, regular potting soil will do just fine as long as it has no chemicals. I used to buy dried blocks (actual repitle substrate)(3 for like $7) but I can get the same amount at Zellers in a bag of potting soil for just $2, so look around, plus don’t forget to buy crickets (and food +"water").

Don’t forget that Anoles do not drink out of dishes, so you need to spray the cage.

Any other questions, just ask Atrax or look at his Caresheet.

First of all, how many anoles do you have? The general rule is 10 gallons of space per anole in order for them to be happiest and exhibiting normal behavior. So if you have 2 anoles, you will need a 20 gallon tank, 3 in a 30 gallon, etc....

Also, make sure to sex your anoles properly. Check the link "The 99.9999994% correct way to sex anoles" or something like that. The poster has included an image of how to sex the anoles properly. Basically the males will exhibit two enlarged scales below the vent/butt of the anole, and the females don’t.

NEVER house two males together. If you have two males, return one, and you can always replace it with a nice female. Females will fight / chase one another for breeding rights and a pecking order will be established, but they will not fight to the death like male anoles can and will do.

Also, you will need a sterile, organic substrate/soil that does NOT have perlite, fertilizer, bark fines, coconut refuse, Miracle Gro or Soil Conditioners in it. Basically anything with chemicals in it can be harmful and deathly to the anoles, as Kumi stated above.

If you cannot find a good potting soil with this, then just plain peat moss will do as well. It is what I have in my tank at the moment. It is a lighter substrate, but it works just fine for my anoles (plus the bags are lighter since they only contain the peat moss).

You will also need a UV light.... either Repti Sun’s or Repti Glo’s 5.0 UV flourescent strip will do. Make sure to get one that will mostly run the length of your cage.

You also need a basking lamp. A regular incandescent light bulb in a clamp light fixture (you can purchase this for cheap at Home Depot or Lowes) will do.

You will also need a SCREEN TOP to allow air/ventilation and the light to PASS THROUGH to the reptiles. Plastic, glass, or plexiglass lids/tops will FILTER most of the UV rays and warmth exhibited from the basking light.

Also, the taller the enclosure the better. As anoles are semi-arboreal, they LOVE to climb. So make sure you have LOTS of foliage/vegetation and branches for them to climb. Place either a plant or a long branch up near the basking light for them to bask, but make sure it is not too close but close enough to provide them the warmth they need.

Also, NEVER, and I mean NEVER get an undertank heater or heating rock. Anoles as I stated are semi-arboreal, and these heating rocks can fry your lizard, and the undertank heater is pointless, since they will spend 99% of their time in the branches and leaves.

Fake or real plants will do. Some good real plants are Pothos, as well as some Ivys. Make sure they do not contain any sap in the leaves or stems as they can be poisonous for the anoles.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

They may both be males. When I got mine I didnt know the gender and they were "mating" and then it turned out they were both males. They were fighting, one on top with tail under the other and biting the neck. It can also be agressive behavior. be sure you know the gender before you are deciding that its just safe mating. It could be very dangerous

If the lizards are inside their tank (which I’m assuming is plastic, either way it doesnt matter) but the UVA/UVB rays cannot pass through the glass/plastic (or at least not enough of them), that is why it is required to have a mesh lid for the lamps.

A bigger tank is required. You might want to look for fish tanks, they can be cheaper than actual reptile tanks.(mine was $100).

Also, yes, you need to sex your anoles, if they are both males and expecially with the tank size that you have, they will fight. So I hope that it is a male and a female.
