Need tips on how to clean tank without hurting anoles

What are some tips for cleaning out an anole tank? The dreadful day has finally come and my tank needs to be cleaned out, but I’m not sure how to go about it.

I don’t handle my anoles (I know it stresses them) unless I have to take them out (like when I took them to the vet for a checkup), but it’s very frustrating for us both, and I don’t want to risk them getting hurt. Do I do it with the anoles still in there or do I take them out? I would think I’d have to take them out, because I’m guessing it’s best to just take out all the plants and bark, throw out the old substrate, put the new in, replace the items, and then put the anoles back in. Is there any other, easier or safer way, or is that it?

First, have a second temporary enclosure ready. Next, carefully and slowly remove all of the extra "furniture" that you can. You can trap the Anole with a large deli dish by slowly and carefully placing it over him and then slide the lid underneath. Transfer him to the temporary enclosure for the short time it will take to clean the original tank. Make sure that you rinse any cleanser out of the original tank well before you return the plants and other goodies. A vinegar-based glass cleaner (Windex makes one) will work on the glass. Any branches can be cleaned with a dilute bleach solution, thoroughly rinsed and air-dried.zlr,
