 THE FIRST EGG JUST HATCHED

Well....went into my room to check on how the eggs were looking in the incubator. I have a GladWare container with the 7 eggs that have been laid so far.(She has laid 8 but number 6 was a dud). The container is inside of a larger 10 gallon with a light on top. Then i realized that one of the eggs was broken and shriveled. Several inches away from the container on a branch was a tiny little anole. I am so happy!!!! Will have pics and name up fairly soon!!!!

also...several questions just to be sure. How long should i wait to feed it? Should i gently mist him tonite? Any other info would be great. Several years ago, i hatched a baby from a pair i used to own, but sadly, the baby died after 2 weeks. I want to do everything i can to keep this anole alive and well.

The pics of peewee are several hours after hatching. Einstein/Sophie is 2 days old in the pic. As you may realize i have yet to have sexed the anoles. Currently, Peewee is a genderless name while the other will be named Einstein or Sophie depending on the gender. Einstein was the first to hatch.

Reptilefreak...if youre saying that i should try to teach them to drink out of waterbowls it is something i have always wanted to see. I have heard that only anoles that you have trained to drink from them will do it. My only concern is that they may drown in the water bowl. Is that possible even though it is a low bowl. Both of them are currently drinking water when i mist them!

i dont think i need to though. Luckily, they are both eating pinheads but they LOVE fruitflies. They chased after them within two minutes of them being in the cage.

You can also feed hatchlings wild caught leafhoppers. They love them!

 THE FIRST EGG JUST HATCHED

yeah, I’ve been trying to find tiny wild caught food items for them with no avail for the moment. There isn’t actually a huge variety of insects in general in the area around my house. If this is a leaf hopper,

then i have only seen a leafhopper once near my house(Yes i know there are tons of different species of them). Unfortunately, it was about 3/4 of an inch and i found it at night(not sure if it was a leafhopper because of that) Though a website i was just on says that they can get over an inch. Sometimes at night there are TINY moths outside my front porch, i may be able to feed them some of those. At the moment, my local petsmart is out of ALL crickets(including the boxed types). Luckily, this forced me to buy fruitflies for them. To my amazement, one of them was devoured within 2 minutes or less of being in the cage. Out of my last purchase of crickets, i saved the smallest cricket for them which i believe they ate already. Unfortunately, most of the small crickets at petsmart are just a bit too big for them.

That’s a leafhopper. They are easy to collect. Just sweep a grassy area with a net with a muslin (or other tight mesh) bag. I use an aspirator to suck them into a small bottle and then dump the lot into the enclosure. My two adult Anoles will go through a couple hundred in a few days. Hatchlings will eat them avidly. I have raised many clutches on such a diet.

Well the leafhoppers were a success. The adults love the larger ones that are close to an inch. I found many tiny greenish-white bugs that i am sure are leafhoppers too. All it took was a little searching to find them by my front porch. I caught several and placed them in the cage of the babies, but i accidentally dropped one too and it flew away. Several seconds later, i saw one crawling on the glass and it caught the attention of one of the baby anoles. He kept running after it and biting at it, but he wasnt catching it for some odd reason. Eventually, i realized that he was going after the one that had escaped and was on the outside of the glass.LOL! Oh well, thanks for the suggestion Atrax, them seem to love them

DON’T EVER put a water dish in an enclosure with a hatchling Anole. They are prone to fall in and drown - even in a shallow dish.

 The third egg has hatched!!!

The first two babies are doing great and are currently on a diet of fruitflies, leafhoppers, TINY moths, and other very small insects that i catch that are safe for them to eat. Today, i checked their cage to find a 3rd egg opened and a small, wet little lizard on the plant pot in their cage. He is adorable but i have not yet sexed the new one. As for the others i am almost certain that Einstein is a male and that Peewee is a female. Here are some pics of all of the little rascals! Also....felt like throwing in some pics of my knight anole cage.
