Other than crickets, what else can you feed them?

thanks, I’ll try the fruit as well. And perhaps a pinkie again. I had an extra pinkie when my pacman frog wouldn’t take his usual second one...my anole bit it in half and spit it out. Not something I want to clean up again. But I might wait a day between feedings and try again. Thanks again.

also, if you want i have carelinks and other info for knight anoles at free webs.com/anolis (without the space in free and webs) they are a greatly overlooked species in my opinion and are much more attractive than greens.

He wouldn’t take any fruit. Just the usual meats.

I gave it a shot. I tried putting some on his nose, a piece of banana...he just flared up and open his mouth. He gets pissy sometimes. Haha

I fed him a small lizard. He seemed to like that A LOT! I’ve never seen him run to a meal so fast. Ate that sucker so fast I thought he was gonna choke! But he didn’t...seems content this morning.

I’m not sure if I like feeding him other reptiles, but he was just so sick of crickets...they crawl all over him and only when annoyed does he snatch one.

I didn’t want to feed him mealworms either even though he seemed to like them. He wouldn’t take a pinky either...just flared up and bit it and ran to a corner.

Fussy eater...but looks like he has an appetite for other lizards, which I’m not sure I really like.

i guess there isn’t anything wrong with feeding them other lizards, small anoles are in their natural diet. I just couldnt feed something to my lizard that i already keep as a pet. mine doesnt go crazy for fruit, but if she’s hungry she’ll eat it. The only exception is blueberries which she LOVES. I think she had 6 in one day once. She also loves earthworms. Unfortunately they arent very nutritious.

Smaller reptiles are their natural prey. If I had one and lived in Florida, I would round up all of the Brown Anoles I could find (an invasive species), and feed them to him! The only drawback to feeding reptiles to reptiles is the parasite load that they bring with them.

i know its their prey, but im not enthousiastic about spending 8.99 on something to feed my lizards. I would buy pinkies, but i dont know anywhere near me that sells em besides online. THat would be convenient to have an unlimited supply of food in the form of an invasive species however.

Yeah, 8.99 for a meal every other day is uber expensive. He wouldn’t take pinkies. Lame.

If I feed him two lizards a week, will he be okay on that?

idk, depends how big they are. i really dont have a schedule for mine. Some days mine will eat 5 or 6 crix and a worm the size of an anole. Somedays she wont even accept a cricket. Just go by what you think is right. As long as shes eating and doesnt look too skinny or too fat she should be fine. Just try to keep variety in its diet.

ask atrax about the nutritional value of anoles as food. At this moment, i try to keep a main diet of crickets, then a decent amount of earthworms, a small amount of waxworms, and lastly small amounts of fruit whenever i have them available. As long as its eating and it doesnt look too fat or too skinny then you should be good. Find out the best soultion for the diet and then start from there. My knight has a constantly changing diet, but maybe mine is just weird.

Right now he’s just eating lizards and absolutely refuses to eat anything else. He just puffs up at everything else but goes right after a lizard.

You can get feeders online for reasonable prices. Glades Herp has them for $4.00 each and Diamond Reptile has Green Anoles for $2.50. You might want to explore prices on Brown Anoles since they are an invasive (and expendable) species.

I ordered some from LLL reptile. I liked the other sites, but I really don’t want 20 lizards all crammed in a cage. It’ll take me forever to get through them, but I don’t want them to be crammed and unhappy before they’re eaten. I don’t like the idea of feeding lizards to my anole, but he seems to be really happy eating them. I ordered 10 so that should last me a while.

Thanks for the info.

hey good choice with feeding lizards to lizards, but if you don’t like the idea i own a cuban knight anole i just feed a constant diet of crickets and super worms. Although i might add some butter worms into her diet. You never know thought she might eat pinky mice, mine is about 8 inches could she eat pinkies?
