I’d like to get an Anole...

hey everybody!! I really want a Bahaman Anole, but my parents are very skeptical about letting me get it. They keep making all these excuses as to why I shouldn’t have one, but I think they’re just paranoid. I also have 4 cats and they’re afraid that the cats will find a way to get in the cage and eat them, or at least scare them to death. What can I do to convince them to get one? My friend works at a pet store and is going to help me with everything that they need. Please give me some advice :) Thanx :)

anoles although the initial cost of the reptile is little can run you into some big $$$ They require at least a 20 gallon enclosure, lots of greenery, UVB, constant temperature and humidity. They are the reason that I got into reptiles at all. My young son wanted to learn so I bought 2 set ups one for us and one for his school, the $6.99 dollar anoles ended up running about $150 per set up, not including fecal at vet, so...no matter what animal you want or what cost it is know that you are responsible for that little guy, for years to come. Anoles are great, observation only!! good luck

I didn’t think they’d be that expensive! My friend that works at PetSmart said it would be around $50. And I thought 1 Bahaman Anole only needed 10 gallons? Obviously, I’m very new to this, so bare with me. lol. I’d still really like to get one, and I think that once I convinced my parents, they wouldn’t really mind the price. I just don’t know how to convince them, lol.

I got a UVBalb and its dich thingy for about $30 then a 10 ganllen for about $20 then the anole for $7 had the potting soil and and some potted plants. So its not that expensive as that!

P.S. It is happy and healthy with that.

First I would not have gone with potting soil, I would go gor the astroturf and some moss. Also, I like the fake plants beeter than real because you can sanitize them. Plus you need to have them checked for worms and parasites. You are doing the least care you can for your anole. They require alot more than you have provided. You should also have an infrared night bulb which run about $25. The variety of food that is needed can get expensive.

You can always feed it meal worms but thats not a good choice. Unless you cut or smoosh there choppers or theyll snack on there stumach. Crickets are probally your best guess.they dont cost much either.

I just use crickets but I dust them with vitimin and mineral suplements... I also have my take set up with potting soil and live plants and they are extremely happy in it, and healthy. You just need to get sanatized soil or bake it at 350° for 45 minutes. I still fo course get them checked for paracites. UVA/UVB bulb, red light, the whole nine yards. They live better than I do! ^_^

I would start off with a green anole they get tame easier in my experiances. And they dont need but a 10 gallon tank for like 2.I have lots of green anoles but they live outside.i have one that i rescued from the wild becouse it was missing a leg now he is doing really good and he is pushing 7 years old!!!!!!!So if i were you i would get a Green Anole.

I bought 2 brown anoles at Petco. In all, it was 70 dollars. I’, getting rid of my brown anoles on monday, and thinking about getting a bearded dragon instead. The reason I’m giving my anoles back to Petco is simple. The guy at Petco said one was a male and the other a female. Well, 2 weeks later I find out they are both males, and are trying to kill each other. I like borwn anoles, but I can’t stand to watch them hurting each other. I’ll just return them.

I have two cats, they like to watch my anole but cant get to him, so thats not much of a problem for you id guess. My setup has bed a beast which works great, my crickets that i get dont hide in it cause the heat lamp make the dirt go hard (like it started) the entire setup ended up around 100$$....make sure that you are willing to spend, it always comes out more expensive then you think. 10 gallon is find for one green. It was my first reptile and I strongly recomend it to start. First id like to say you dont need a watering dish, maybe just for humidity, so get a small one and mist the tank 1/2 a day, save some cash there. Go with fake plants, the soft kind because they are easy to clean and reusable. plan on about 3 dollars every other week for crickets.Good luck PS, dont use astro turf! its easier for you, but bad for the anole, for shedding purposes just put in a piece of driftwood or rock.
