What can i feed anoles?
They only seem to like eating things that have no nutritional value whatsoever - like little fruit flies/other tiny flies that get in the tank, they go crazy over the beetles that mealworms turn into and go absolutely nuts over the moths that waxworms turn into!! they get a lot of variety, but it means that i’ve got tubs of food that never gets eaten cos you cant just buy 12 mealworms and 10 locusts, so most of the feeder food dies or gets so big it wanders around the tank eating the greenery (i sometimes leave the locusts in after they shed cos i figured their skin will be softer and they might get eaten, also gives the anoles something to look at ~ they get mesmorised by the locusts sometimes) i’ve fun out of things to feed them. I even put some mango and dragon fruit in (just to see what they thought of it, they licked it a bit - more out of curiosity i think). they had pureed apple once but i took that out cos they liked it and ate some of it, but also went walking around in it and got covered in sticky stuff and mud! any ideas what else they can eat? or if they’re hungry enough will they eat something they’re not fussed about? |

If you don’t like ordering online, try looking in the phone book in your area for "bait and tackle" shops. Most "bait" items are just the thing your Anole’s are looking for, and they are pretty cheap. |

LEPIDOPTERA – Butterflies and Moths. Moths are excellent prey items for your Anole. If possible, they should be a daily menu item during the warmer months. They have good nutritional value and Anoles can’t seem to resist chasing them. A good way to get a reluctant Anole to eat is to put a moth in the enclosure. The Anole will go through gyrations rivaling a world-class gymnast trying to catch a moth. The exercise is good for them! Moths are easy to catch at both light and scent traps and are very abundant throughout the warmer months. |
