 Redness around vent

I have been noticing a little bit of "blushing" around the vent area of my green anole. It doesn’t look to serious. Is this normal, or could there be something wrong with him.

Anole’s are incredibly small, and anytime there is an abnormality, they should be seen by a vet. It is possible it is nothing to worry about, however you won’t know that until it is checked out. Being as small as they are, life and death can hang in the balance of an hour, or a few hours, and not days, so prompt care is always warranted.

Considering this is at a bodily opening, I too would recommend taking it to a vet as it could be an infection.

Thanks, after I got a better look, it turned out it was a cut. Should I put neorsporin on it? I fear it might affect the vent.

Is it on the vent, or near it? If it is near it, but not affecting the vent itself, you can try a little neosporin on the affected area. Inspect the area often, and if there is no improvement in 24 hours seek a vet. Also, needless to be said, if you notice any odd changes to it, more reddening, buttmunch of any kind, or a change in your anole’s behavior, seek medical attention for it at once.

The timing is crucial of course because they are small. Generally a wait of 24 hours is okay, however if its not improving or you are worried by sometime mid day tomorrow, call your vet well before their offices close. Since it is coming on a holiday weekend, just be prepared and search for (should you need it in a hurry) a 24 hour emergency vet clinic that can handle herps in your area. Often a lot of time is wasted finding one in an emergency.
