 Anole Egg or Something Else?

I’m new to Anoles, so please bear with me...

First off, this site is great! I have already learned some dos and don’ts just reading past messages. Thanks to all.

Second, I found what I think may be an anole egg on a leaf in my tank, but it doesn’t quite look like any of the pictures I’ve been able to find on the net. I have one female green anole (named Zule), and have had her for about 2 months now. If this is an egg, why would she be laying eggs without somebody to mate with her??? The "egg" is almost tear drop shaped (fat on one side, tapering on the other), and sort of waxy looking (a yellowish-white color). Is this in fact an anole egg? It’s fairly large (larger that the crickets she eats) so I can only assume it’s from Zule. I have put it in a home-made incubator as I think was suggested in one of the replies I found here, but I don’t want to get my hopes up waiting for a baby anole if it’s not an egg... I have actually noticed that there were a couple of the same sort of thing on the ground, but it looked like they were cracked open and I don’t see any baby anything’s in the cage... If these are eggs, why are some cracked and yet there are no babies? Sorry if I sound dumb, but like many others, I took the pet store guys advice for the most part, which apparently wasn’t very helpful. I have since made some changes to habitat, etc. but still have a lot of learning to do... Thanks for any help.

welol first off, if there isn’t any male in the tank, the "egg" won’t be fertilized so it absolutely wont hatch. Anoles eggs look like mini chicken eggs....white...and they burry them in the substrate, not stick them on leaves...sorry.

 Anole Egg or Something Else?

Thanks for the reply, Gecko craze!
Now, I don’t want to agrue with you here, but here is a site that says green anoles lay eggs on leaves, not on the ground. (Although, I can’t figure out the sense in this...)
http://www.reptileallsorts.com/greenanole1-cs.htm
But to be fair I have also read that they lay eggs in the substrate, so I’m not sure which to really believe...
I’ve also read that they can store sperm for up to 5 months after mating. And that part I’ve read on several sites... That part calculates just fine since I just got her from the pet store 2 months ago, and she was apparently housed with males. (The pet store guy actually told us she was a male, but a bit of research nixed that right off) Anyways, if anybody has any idea what else this thing could be if it’s not an egg PLEASE let me know! (By the way, it’s about 1/3 the size of my anoles head give or take a little) All I know is that it DEFINITELY was not there last night when I switched to the "night-light", but it sure was there this morning when I got up. And the color has turned to a firm white, not a yellowish-white anymore... I just can’t see what else this thing might be if it’s not an egg. Appreciate the help!

If it ain’t just feces than it has got to be eggs. I highly doubt the eggs have been around long enough for you not to notice a few hatching. As long as you keep th eggs at a constant 78-80F they hatch in about 50 days but it can take as many as 65 days. And as always be sure to keep the adults and offspring in seperate tanks. If you have allowed the eggs to be exposed to room temperature overnight then I doubt any will ever hatch.

 Anole Egg or Something Else?

my female has been laying eggs too!--they look slightly bigger than a grain of rice-- at first they are soft and leathery----then expand and become hard shelled.---mine have gone yellow when they get hard.

anoles can lay up to 12 eggs in one mating season---and you are right....females store the sperm when mating--that way they can produce multiple offspring--if they didnt the species would be extinct right now.

about the cracked open eggs-----they propably are. I found an egg that my female layed--incubated it---but 3 days later found it cracked open.

I know that if there is another female--they will disturb the eggs.
she could have done it herself--or perhaps the crickets chewed it open---

that is what I think happened to mine the crickets got to it...cause it looked chewed.

babies should hatch in no more that 45 days.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO REMOVE THE EGG IMMEDIATELY---AND MANAGE TO NOT MOVE--OR ROLL IT--THIS WILL KILL THE EGG.---you have to make sure to keep it in the exact postion as it was found.

Anoles will lay eggs anywhere--then bury or hide them if they can.

I have found all my anoles eggs high up on her repti hammock--out in the open.

hope this helps---you can PM (personal mail) me anytime if you have anymore questions or comments!!

I didnt know about this for a while---but basically you click on "view profile" by my name/message
then click contact member. and thats it!

To get into your account you just go to MEMBERS AREA---and then messages.
(just in cause u didnt know!)
THIS IS DIRECT MAIL--BETWEEN YOU AND WHOEVER--MUCH QUICKER.
