Skinny Anole, have had one day We just got our son a Anole yesterday and we got his cage and everything set up. Today i noticed you can see all his ribs? We did get branches, fake bushes and fake rocks for him. What can I do to make sure he gets healthy and is happy? My son knows he is only to look at and not touch. We did by 12 crickets and they are in with him now. He is in a 10 gallon tank, did get vitamins today to sprinkle on his next batch of insects. I also got a light bulb with UVA? The pet store i got him from told me i didnt need anything like that but after reading about them last night online we went out this morning and got vitiamins and bulb (only bulb our pet store had). His light is 60 watts and it seems to getting the light very hot instead of warmth inside his cage? I am using a regular lamp clamped onto his cage. Can anyone recommend a site i can order supplies? Do i need one with UVB? I would also like to get a water fall/fogger to go in his cage. I want to make sure he is healthy and happy where he is living. Thanks

Skinny Anole, have had one day Congrats on the new anole. It sounds like you have everything started up well so far.
Couple things... try not to leave crickets in with your anole, sometimes they will chew at your lizards. I used to dump a bunch in and leave them and never had any problems, but after I saw some horrific pictures of anoles with their toes chewed off I stopped. Better to be safe.
A regular house bulb is fine for UVA - anything that emits light emits UVA. The pet store bulbs are fine to use as well, but they are much more expensive and tend to burn out quickly and sometimes never work (I’ve had horrible luck). The have a coating that focuses the beam to give a hot basking spot directly beneath the light. In my opinion not the best thing since it usually gets too hot there and not enough heat elsewhere.
You do need a UVB light. A 5.0 strip light is fine. Your pet store is horrible for not telling you this!
Why fake rocks? Real ones are fine. You can wash them off and "bake" them to sterilize them. Reptile heat rocks are a no, they can burn your lizard.
Waterfalls & foggers are often more trouble then they are worth, but if you can put in the maintenance they might be worth it. I’ll send you a personal message with some websites, because I don’t know if I’m supposed to post them on here on not.
Glad you are doing your research and taking the time to give him a good home!
Best of luck!

Skinny Anole, have had one day Thanks! LOL i dont know why i got fake rocks. I paid 5 bucks for them too. Makes me laugh now that i think about it. I also paid 9 dollars for that UVA bulb which you are saying is just a regular light bulb. So the lamp i get will hold a UVA bulb and the UVB? Do I use them both together? Sorry i am asking this but we have never had a reptile before. The pet store recommend this small plastic tank for him so thats what i bought when we brought him home. We got the 10 gallon today cause i didnt think it was big enough after setting the small one up. so i can store crickets in the little tank so a bunch are not in with him. We pretty much got everything our store had so I dont get to see what i need in person or know what i am looking for. I will do a search for the light strip you mentioned. Thanks again! Jen

Skinny Anole, have had one day Definitely go with the 10 gallon, that’s about the minimum size. They are very active which I’m sure you’ve noticed! The plastic one will be great for crickets. I’m guessing you probably got a dome lamp for the bulb you have been using... keep using that for the UVA. You need a separate fixture for the UVB. UVB lights do not emit very much visible light and minimal heat, so you need the dome lamp for heat and the basking spot. Your UVB light should be something like the Zoo Med Repti Sun which is held in this type of hood fixture. You can see both types of lights in the picture I attached.
Hope this helps!

Skinny Anole, have had one day
How did you get the picture posted? Everytime I try to post one it is telling me it is too large and I can’t seem to get it small enough no matter what I try. I would like to post a picture of my vivarium and get some feedback from everyone, but I can’t get the pic uploaded!
