 Something wrong?

my green Anole eats normal and he drinks regularily from the dew on his leaves but lately he has been laying flat out on the groud and turning mostly green with brown patches all over him and just sprawling out, is something wrong with him or is he just relaxing, please let me know.

We need the temperatures (basking and cool side), humidity level, lighting (UVB and other) to make an accurate diagnosis.

Basking area should be 85-92 (90 is ideal). Cool side should be 75+. I’ll bump my caresheet. Temperatures that are too low make it difficult for an Anole to digest food among other things.

it is extremly hard to keep it that warm considering i am living in a canadian winter but i did bump up the heat a bit and i turned off the lights a bit earlyer last night and he seems to be a bit livelyer and a bit friendlyer today. my neibor, who has owed many anoles and other lizards said it was more then likel over tired then too cold because it was born here in canada and is a little more resiliant to the cold, witch i find to be more or less true considering it drops to about 50 degrees at night and none of my neibors lizards that were bread here have any issues but his bearded dragon that he brought with him from arizona hates the cold

Anoles can tolerate temperatuires in the 40’s for a remarkable length of time (they don’t hibernate) but that doesn’t mean it is good for them. You can increase basking temp by increasing the wattage of the bulb (regular incandescent bulbs work) or putting it closer to the top of the enclosure. Make sure it doesn’t rest directly on the top, though.

If you enclosure has a screen top you could lay some cloth over portions of the top to help it hold in heat (and humidity). This helps me greatly in NE Ohio while I’m still working on my anoles future enclosure. a 55g tank does not hold heat too well without some covering over portions of the top. So mine have a temperature gradient from 98 to 73 during daytime and 87-58 nighttime. The lowest temperatures are at the extreme cold end, which I have never seen them go, in fact, they never leave the branches except to drop down on an unsuspecting cricket or moth.

There has got to be a way for you to keep the temps up higher though. I know since I future enclosure will not use dome basking fixtures, I refuse to buy more, I every night I switch out their incandescent lights with ceramic heat emitters. it’s a pain in the butt, but I can’t see me buying two more domes (that won’t fit up there with the daytime lights anyway) that i won’t use once I’m done. So, if you don’t have some sort of nighttime heat, get it, they really do need some warmth at night too.
