My anole has his mouth open

I need help my anole opens his mouth and keeps it like that for seconds, he drinks a lot of water but does not eat, anybody tell me what to do please, I heard vets are expensive. Is there anything that I can buy or do to help him get better.

He might be scaring himself when he sees his reflection. The mouth thing might be him puffing himself up to scare away the "threat" his reflection appears to pose. Try covering all but one side of the tank with paper or non-toxic waterproof paint (it has to airout if you choose this option) so he doesn’t see a reflection on the glass

He’s probably sweating. Lizards cannot sweat so they ’vent’, I think that’s the correct term. You need to make sure he eats soon if not you really should see a vet. Anoles don’t open their mouths to scare one another. They will bob their heads and flare their dewlaps if they are trying to scare away another lizard if they saw their reflection. How warm is your tank and what wattage are you using? Make sure to keep him hydrated.

My anoles bob at each other but they open their mouths at their reflections..... I know this because I tested it with a mirror ;). But my anoles aren’t exactly going "by the book" persay so you’re probably right anole queen :)

If the mouth gaping is accompanied by labored breathing or panting, he probably has a respiratory infection.

yes I think it is a respiratory infection, I was reading in another site that the tank has to be very warm and humid, and I think it’s working, at least today he has his mouth closed but very skinny and he is not drinking as much as yesterday. Also he ate one worm and half. Today I am checking to see if he is eating. Since vets are expensive I am doing my best and praying a lot. Any other idea let me know please

While his mouth is open, perhaps you should put a cricket in it.
