 Cleaning Cage w/o any escapes!LOL

Ok, long story short...we rescued 3 anoles, all females.
I went to adopt them for free off of craigslist, we have a bearded dragon, we have had a chameleon who passed away of old age, etc.
I love reptiles and spoil them rotten.
When we got there to pick them up, they were in horrid living conditions, etc.
And I honestly think that if they had 1 more week in that condition, at least one would have died.
I took them out of their tank, cleaned it, gave them the proper conditions, etc. and it has now been 2 weeks and they are doing better!
So much better that they are active! Very active!LOL
I need to clean their cage, remove dead leaves, etc.
How do I do this without at least one of the little buggers escaping?
I did some last night and still had one zip out...luckily I caught her safely and put her back in.
I do have a seperate container and can catch them all, put them in, etc.
But... I know that is traumatizing to them.....so ???
Tips, hints, etc. to be able to clean their cage and not have escapees?

I have a mesh screen top (I use for cleaning) that is hinged in the middle. I can "herd" them to the side that the top is down on while I clean the other side. There is still a chance they could escape, but I feel more secure than having the whole top off the tank. Good luck :)

I got mine on Reptilesupply.com. I think it was around $13 or $14 (??) plus shipping. That was the price for a top that fits a 29 gallon tank. The care sheet at the top of the forum recommends a thorough cleaning every 6 months, for that I will have to remove my anoles completely...but the split screen mesh top certainly does the trick for my everyday routine :)

Mine go to the bottom when I stick my hand in so far, I’ve used a damp paper towel to remove waste and had one jump on my arm, scared the crap out of me. I also had put 1/4" hardware screen on the top and my crickets were escaping so we just put a layer of window screen instead so they couldn’t get out.

clean at night when they are sleeping or move them to a spare enclosure while you clean
