Female anole For some reason i cant upload photos on hear but i know that in one of the care sheets above Atrax has posted a picture of what to look for when determining gender. Males will have two enlarged post anal scales at the vent of their tail and females will not. That is the most accurate way. Other ways are to look at the size. Females tend to be smaller and most have a tan looking line going down their back. They will also often have a shorter snout than the males. These, however, are not the most accurate ways to check but i suppose they are okay if you just want to make a quick determination. Have you purchased one. Maybe you can post some picks on here of it so we can help you determine it if you are still unsure of what to look for.

Female anole
In anoles, it is the male that has a large, obvious dewlap. The females are a little more petite in size overall, and have no dewlap or only a very small, rudimentary one.

Female anole The most definitive way (other than having it probed by a vet) is to check for the enlarged post-anal scales. If it has them, it is a male. If not, it is a female. White mid-dorsal lines, head shape, size, and dewlap size are ALL inaccurate.

Female anole I am puzzled -- how can you say that dewlap size is not important? In full-grown anoles, it is only the male that has a large dewlap, and anyone can check that, it really isn’t rocket science!

Female anole Some small males (adults) have relatively small dewlaps and some females have relatively large ones. Dewlap size is NOT a definitive indicator of gender. Enarged post-anal scales, on the other hand, ARE a definitive indication of gender. They are even nt in embryos before hatching as well.
