Foggers Has anyone tried an ESU Reptile Ultrasonic Fogger? Supposedly it will keep the humidity up and provide enough moisture on the leaves for the anoles to drink. Anyone have any experience with this?I heard the Habba Mist is good but that it makes a lot of noise that startles the anoles when it turns on. I also thought of trying a waterfalls but I hear they’re not great at increasing the humidity. Comments?

Foggers Pattie, I had a habba mister but I realy do not like it anymore. It really doesn’t have a good misting system. It is far from a mist. More like just spitting out water. And if your not careful you can end up with to much water in youer tank ,leading to mold growth. I woild not recomend it. But that is just MY opinion. I am also looking into a fogger. I like the idea of a fine mist like clouds etc. Plus it will be a lot quieter than the habba mister.

Foggers The ESU Reptile Ultrasonic Fogger is the one recommended by the Kingsnake Anole care site "Under the Leaves". I believe this fogger has an auto shut-off when a certain humidity is reached. This would avoid the mess some foggers can cause because they add too much moisture.

Foggers I have an ExoTerra fogger and I can tell you what I’ve learned so far about most foggers. If placed in a large body of water that is parallel to the ground level of the tank will create a ’layer’ of fog about 2" thick. Most wood will mold in that layer and so will any contaminated soil. The humidity level in the fog layer will be close to 100% but anything above the fog layer will be close to the humidity level of the room. If placed in a large body of water above the ground level of the tank it will create a layer of fog that covers everything up to a few inches higher than the large body of water. And yet again this will cause the fog layer to be very humid while the very top area of the tank will be decent. If placed in a small body of water it will turn all of the water into fog before you can refill it. If placed in a waterfall it will create fog that actually travels through the tank but most of it will be concentrated around the waterfall. That means you have to be careful of what is around the waterfall and where in the tank it is located. That’s why I put mine far in the cool side and with gravel surrounding it. The rest of the tank has a gravel bottom layer and a grass/soil top layer. I liked how much fog was created when the fogger was in the large body of water above ground level but the anoles would get nervous and climb up to be above the fog. When it was in the large body of water level with the ground it was fine but I didn’t like how my wooden branches became moldy. Within the waterfall a fogger becomes less effective in creating a fog layer but rather creates a fog curtain that falls down the rapids but will also then rise up and fall back down before dissipating. My fogger doesn’t turn itself when a humidity level is reached and it doesn’t have any sensors besides the one that tells it that it is underwater. I use a timer because if it stays on for too long it will saturate the area around it. What I do like about the fogger is that it is very small and made to fit inside the medium waterfall made by the same company.

Foggers That is some interesting info. I am glad you wrote that . I will probrably not use a fogger then. I have quite a few branches in my tank. Plus I don’t think a fogger would work very well in the size of the tank I have. I believe I would be better off with a misting system. I found you links you gave me in my ( ? about home made mister) post to be very helpful. I am now leaning towards that. I feel that a misting system would be mor consistant and benificial for my tank.

Foggers Yeah, it would take a lot more work to figure out a way to really get the potential out of the fogger. For now I use it just as a special effect. For humidity control that is automatic the best way is to buy or build a misting system. Even if you bought a humidifier that worked perfectly you would still need to mist the tank or keep clean water in a waterfall so that the anoles can drink. I use a dripper from time to time but I have yet to see any lizard takes a sip from it. But then again why would they bother with it when they have the waterfall and I always mist regularly?
