My Lizard is Very Sick
| I "inherited" 5 lizards, 2 anoles, and 3 gechos, from the Orange Bowl this last December. I am now down to 1 anole. I bought him a girlfriend because he looked lonely. Well it’s been about 2 weeks and since I got her and he is very sick. His mouth won’t close and he is very weak. My heart is just breaking. I called all the vets in my area that work on lizards and (even due to my situation)they can’t get me in until Thursday. It’s so said, AJ (the girl) is sitting next to Buddy ... Can anyone give me a suggestion please! I’m desperate. This is the second site I have come to... |

Re: Re: My Lizard is Very Sick
I’m sorry for your loss. I didn’t see it in time but even if I did, there probably was nothing you could have done at that point. I lost an anole I tried to save this year too. The only thing I could think of off-hand is that introducing a new mate is always risky. It is best to quarantine for several months and wash your hands in between handling. Your new one may have parasites. You should take a fresh stool sample in and have it tested. I’m not sure how easy it would be to treat an anole though. I’ve never given one medicine. It’s hard enough giving it to an iguana or bearded dragon! Keep an eye on her though, seriously. Once again....sorry you lost your fellow. |

Re: My Lizard is Very Sick
| I have been bit by anoles...it doesn’t tickle but it wasn’t like being bit by other reptiles I own. I always just looked at anoles as more of a watching reptile then a holding reptile. They are quick and small...you can lose them very easily. Personally I would put in some nice branches, rocks, and a small pond or water fall and just enjoy watching them in their tank. PE |
