 Green Anoles --> Always Brown??

`sup people, thanks for your help on the last post, unfortunately she died! Ive two left, one male and one female. The problem now is that they are never green, always brown. I bought them all 2 months ago and they were green in the shop, but since then they have turned a permanent brown, apart from when they sleep. Im feeding them on crickets and mealworms, got some vitamin dust aswell! Misting the tank twice a day, and attempting to touch them now and again, to tame them. The tank is definately big enough for the two, and there are plenty of basking areas.....why are they constantly brown? What am i doing wrong?

 Green Anoles --> Always Brown??

Stress is my guess - maybe they can’t keep visually separated from each other, maybe the temps are a little low, maybe the lighting needs to be changed. Other animals can cause them to stress, too. I’ve had experiences with the cat just starring at my anoles(and other lizards), they stressed. I think maybe they viewed the cat as a predator, and with the cat constantly strutting around the cages, they were constantly stressed - I moved the cage into a room where the cat isn’t allowed, the anoles were bright and happy again. Just a few thoughts....hope it might help. Sorry your other one died.

they turn brown when they are stressed and also if they are basking and there is not enough heat they will turn brown to soak the heat up , in ur situation i would say that ur anoles are really stressed ( i have a few my self that are stressed .) i`ll i can tell you is to try seperating them and try holding them once and awile that always makes my anoles happy, but i have had anoles that hated to be picked up you really gotta know how to read ur lizard. But watch for black behind there eyes if they get black behind there eyes it means they are sick .

when anoles are happy they are green. check the temp, clean ur cage, and if you have lots of decorations and a nice basking spot with clean water, it should be green. If not maybe its under stress due to small cage size or the other anole

Well first of all you should not try to touch them because they are not the kind to be tamed. They are the kind to just look at and care for them.And maybe they dont want so many basking light areas they may just want some light and dark areas to.

Observe your anoles at night.They should be a light pastel green.
If they wake up in the morning then turn brown that is a sure sign of ENVIRONMENTAL STRESS and needs to be dealt with ASAP.
An anole can become seriously sick very fast.
A proper environment is essential for an anoles health.

Basking areas are good--but anoles have to feel safe. Make sure there are plenty of places for them to hide--lots of coverage. Avoid too many open areas. Provide lots of green plants for them--with wide leaves for them to lye on. Trust me on this: Ive had to deal with this before on the extremest level!

P.S. avoid feeding anoles mealworms--if the mealworms head isnt properly crushed the head will actually start to eat through your anoles stomach until it hits daylight--then it will die along with your anole.NOT GOOD!

You can feed them soft bodied worms like wax worms(more a treat than a healthy food) butter worms, and silk worms(healthiest bug out there!!)

Glad I could help!

Sincerely yours
NikkiE
