Hello and welcome. I am quite sure you will find us anole luvers to be very nice folks! A five gallon IS too small. Anoles are extremely territorial and are dramatically effected by their environments, especially when they are unsuitable. A ten gallon will due for 2 anoles but no more than that. Anoles are happy campers when alone because there is no competition for basking spots and food, however, I believe it benifits every living thing to have a companion. Just dont get another brownie because they are VERY agressive towards eachother--a green anole pal is best because they usually don’t resort to vicious fighting (biting ext...) They like to ignore brown anoles jestures to a challage! When you get two different types of anoles it is guranteed be very interesting and educational for you, In terms of learning about the species and their mannerisms...more so to be able to observe how to species learn to intermingle--and how they will adapt in behavior to "fit in" is more rewarding and funny to watch than a oscar winning drama! Make sure you get 2 males because if u get a female they most likely will mate, which is complicated and inconvenient to some, because what most people don’t know is that an an anole can lay up to 12 eggs! A female will store the sperm during mating so she can reproduce one egg after anole. IF all eggs hatch you will have to put females in one tank and house the males by two to a ten gallon to prevent inbreeding which causes alot of specific behavioural problems/quirks! Grasshoppers aren’t bad but crickets are much easier to digest and safer too. Grasshoppers can carry pesticides and pericites, whic can both kill your anole very fast. I would recommend to stay safe--unless you KNOW that the feild hasnt been sprayed, there isn’t anything wrong with collecting free food.--just inspect them and make sure you get smaller ones, and feed the grasshoppers nutrients before you give them to your anole(s) Stay away from mealworms go for any SOFT BODIED worms such as butter worms/silk worms/wax worms Hope I’ve helped you out! And again Welcome! Sincerely yours NikkE |
