What does black around eyes mean?

My son just went and bought his third lizard this evening but the other day when he bought his second, we noticed a lizard in the tank had black behind it’s eyes and I commented to the lady that I had read on here that that means they’re gonna die. Well, this third one looked fine when we got it and after we let it out into the tank...it’s eyes had that black behind them. Is this the sign that there’s something wrong with it or was it just a sign that it was really irritated, mad or unhappy? It’s fine again now...no black spots.

What does black around eyes mean?

Again this morning, it was fine until my son picked it up and it turned black all behind it’s eyes. Put it back in the tank and it turns back green.

Found out what the black means!

I read a post in the archives http://www.kingsnake.com/anolecare/ (thanks whoever posted that) and it states on there that a dominant male will do this to show that he’s the "king of the castle" or a "bully" or it states that a female can also do this.

Found out what the black means!

My little anole has this blackness around her eyes, she is very old and I fear she is dying, but it looks like more, she looks like she has some sickness. The area around her eyes is very dark, and almost appears to be sinking into her skull, and she will not open her eyes. All she does is lay around, and sometimes she wiggles around briefly, almost as if she’s in pain. Please help me

What does black around eyes mean?

if it gets black behind the eye that means its sick that happened to mine and he died. but if it only gets black around his eyes when ur son pics it up its probaly piss off. if its that way when hes around other animals hes probaly a tough guy that get ticked off at eveything he sees . good luck with ur lizards its worth all the time and effort.

NoNo...NoNoNo!!

When anoles get black dots behind there eyes it means they are stressed out!

When first handling them this will happen. Persistance is the cure. Keep on gently handling him/and talking to him. Once he learns that you wont hurt him he will trust you and wont get those spots.

IT DOES NOT MEAN HE IS SICK!!! this is there way of showing unhappiness!

Dont worry. Just becareful not to stress your little guy too much--or he could get sick.

Sincerely yours
NikkE
