I know you’re going to go on about us always being so critical (and when I say us I mean the expierienced ones, which I am on the bottom end of for sure but I do know what I’m talking about) But there needs to be alot more foliage, think of it this way, they’re not flying so the open air is doing no good. Try to get as much foliage as there is open air, or more depending on the number of anoles. If you are short on money try www.reptilesupply.com there are usualy good buys there. Also the substrate could be changed to a repti-carpet type deal or organic potting soil. The lighting will be critical also, it helps the lizard digest and strengthen bones. I’d tell you to look at "Anoles Quick and Easy" but you’ve probably heard that enough. But for the anoles sake just listen. I did’nt ever want to spend a dollar on my lizards but I was finaly convinced and it was worth every penny. There is a difference between saving and neglecting.

ok I’ve changed my setup just a bit:

Repti-bark for substrate
A thermometor stuck to the side of the tank usually reading up to the 60-70’s
I mist the cage every day, once in the morning once every night
He’s living in a plastic 10 gallon cage
A glass bowl for a water bowl
A medicine cup cut to the bottom containing dusted mealworms
A fake log with fake moss on it wich he sleeps in

Anything I can improve?

Oh and as I stated before I’m using a regular 60 watt light bulb as a heating source and were working on getting a UVB strip light.

As has been stated:

- Repti-bark can be ingested and cause death
- You have to have a humidity gauge to determine how often you need to mist; without one, and with humidity being too low, eye and shedding problems can occur
- Anoles do not readily drink from standing water, they drink from when you mist their cages
- Mealworms are not good food items at all. They have a chitonous exoskeleton (you know that crunch sound that insects make when you step on them?) that is extremely hard to digest and can cause blockage and death

You also didn’t mention any hanging plants. Anoles are arboreal, not terrestrial, meaning that they live in the trees and not on the ground. Hanging plants are essential to happy anoles unless you have a multi-tiered enclosure (which you’d have to hand make, and have to be huge)

Also, you need two thermometers - one for hte basking spot and one for the gradient temperature. 60-70 is a good gradient temperature, but the basking spot needs to be 85-95 F to aide digestion. The overall tank temperature cannot be that high, however, because then the anole would roast and couldn’t thermoregulate. Humans sweat, dogs pants, but anoles have to simply move out of the heat to cool down.

For cheap, easy plants to add to a terrarium, try looking in Wal-Mart. They have the fake flowers section, which usually sells some form of ivy that’s great for enclosures. I’ve got one of those in both of my tanks and my girls love it. If you’ve got the money, I highly recommend the reptile hammocks that PetsMart sells. It sounds a little weird, but the anoles absolutely love them and they make great basking spots.

Hope that helps.

Tomboy, once more you’re resisting everyone’s suggestions. If you really aren’t going to change anything at all, then please don’t ask for suggestions - it’s disturbing for those who are trying to help and frankly isn’t conductive to getting anything done. People are taking time to try and help you, and you’re just brushing off every comment that has been made unless it’s been negative, and in that cause you run off with it.

We’re here to help, but if you don’t want to take our help then please don’t ask for it.

A UVA bulb was not necessary. A regular light bulb will suffice. You DO need a UVB fluorescent, though.
