 What does ’Hijacking a Thread’ mean?

I wanted to know because I observed that in a post(I won’t mention which one), that a lot of information was given in the original message. Well, after several other posts including "Bumps", someone asked a question about the original message, and someone else siad that the person who asked the question shoudln’t hijack threads, because it was illegal on this site. Why was it wrong for her(or him) ask about that post? Could someone please explain? I’m completely clueless and confused. Maybe one(or two or three) of you could maybe give me an example of what hijacking a thread would be. Thank you very much

Hijacking a thread refers to asking questions that are not part of the original material. For example, if the original and subsequent messages are about sexing Anoles and someone starts a discussion about Anole color within the same thread, the thread has been hijacked. I have had to re-post a couple of times because the message thread had changed topics one (or more) times.
