So here is a pic of a mite:

On the snake, if you find an adult mite, it kinda looks like the top of a pin, black. smaller or bigger
Here is a Link to a web-site on
The Life History of Snake Mites by "Vida Preciosa International, Inc."

This article from: Pythons of the World, Volume II:

I bought a BP from a pet store... 3 weeks later she started soaking...
Thought it was "cute" swimming and such... till I found out Why she was soaking! They soak to give themselves relief!
Mite Eggs take up to 30 days to hatch... and on the 30th day after I brought her home...
Guess What?     Yep Mites!!
I ordered P-A-M (Prevent A Mite) on line at www.entirelypets.com .
Used Properly it will kill all the mites. It took 9-11 days for it to work for me...
Mite in an infestation can Kill your BP!!!

Clean Everything and replace the substrate!

I remove and add fresh Aspen every week or so and Still had the mites!

Should I spray the snake

Absolutely NOT!!!
You spray the enclosure. Clean Everything... put New substrate in... then spray the enclosure (I did a Quick squirt on hides, etc) ...you spray their House like you would spray Your house for bugs...
Remove the snake from enclosure (obviously :o)
and All other animals (Including Fish!) from the room...
replace substrate
Spray
(if you use news paper, you spray the paper just as you would any other substrate)
Wait for it to dry (I waited 30 - 45 mins)
(and be sure All fumes are Gone).

Replace snake
some soaking may still occur until the PAM works... took 9 - 11 days here.
...the can says... "kills up to 2 weeks - spray once a month."

Follow the Directions! Can be toxic to All animals if used improperly!

If there is/was One mite there will be plenty More!!!

Be sure to take out the water bowl
(Wash but Do Not spray the water bowl)
Clean Everything thoroughly
Cover fish tanks with plastic wrap and turn off pumps (if you have fish)
until All Fumes are gone.

That’s what Customer Service said when I called :o)

keep this bumped with all the others also :o)
any other comments are welcome too
