Adopting a ball python...
OK... so I already have a small ribbon snake and thigns are going well with him. I am planning to also take in a baby (or at least a very small) candy cane corn snake sometime next week... well, in my attempt to find a 20 gallon aquarium at low cost, I asked a friend. He said he probably had one I could simply have but also mentioned that he wanted me to adopt his ball python, aquarium equipment and all. Now, I already have a cat (who is 10) and she isn’t bothered byt he ribbon snake (she’s fascinated actually, loves to watch him) but what is going to happen when I bring home a corn snake and THEN a ball python? Is 3 snakes too much? Would it be a maintainence hassle? I don’t plan to keep them in the same takn... they’d each have thier own. If anyone has any suggestions on this matter or knows of any good information sites please let me know. Thanks!

Adopting a ball python...
shouldnt be too much hassle as they only need minimal looking after compared to dogs/cats etc/.. and my cats always adapted to new pets just dont let them try and eat each other!!!

Adopting a ball python... I had a snake once..then i wanted another so i got it and it wasnt too hard to keep up with. so then i got another. then I got two more and that wasnt hard either to keep up with. then I got a few more and it was still easy to keep them. You just need to adjust the way you keep them. When you get a lot (more than 3 or 4) you just keep them in a small room which you control the temp and humidity and you just add the hot spots with heat tape on a dimmer switch. And you buy bags of frozen rodents instead of one or 3 at a time. it is actually cheaper because if you buy like 25-50 they are like 25c each instead of petcos 1.60 a mouse. my take on it. if you love snakes then go for it.this is not every snake in the room but they are my best pics : )

Adopting a ball python... I do not know how to PM so is it ok if i just tell you on here? Anyway, they range from 800-1100 for males and 1500-2250 for females (for most lines...some people charge more for blonde or lemon...I dont think that will last too long though and i would charge the same and i would not pay more than this market price I mentioned). They vary in looks and some will be more yellow than others and some will have more blushing. I think if they have good blushing in the head they are the nicest looking. Some lines hold more color into adulthood than others as well. I personally think the one I have is one of the nicest but I know a few people that have some extremely nice ones as well. I think mine is from the nerd lemon line but I am not completely sure. I got it from mark PETROS WHO HAS NERD, GRAZZIANI, AND RUPPEL LINE PASTELS. sorry i hit the caps button and my thumb hurts so i dont want to fix it : ) anyway. I would not plan on getting a pastel unless you plan on breeding it in the next 1-2 years and i would feed it a bit more than you other snakes so you can be sure it gets up to maturity and get your money back soo : ) I do not suggest power feeding though..just feed well. I would recomend a male because they are cheaper and you can breed them with multiple females in the year and you can also get them to breed way way way sooner since they only need to make sperm and they do not need to have the weight to carry eggs. This is an investment you will not lose money on unless the snake dies. It will be worth more the older the snake is and if you produce just one female pastel and the rest are normals...you have doubled your money on this snake. If you are into snakes and your parents will get this for you, you are on your way to having a collection that will pay for itself and some of your college. i would worry about getting adult females to breed with him later on. and worry about the process and an incubator. If you do not want to get more females you can also breed with friends that have ball pythons and you can get most of the money because you invested in the expensive snake and they should be happy because they will get much much more money than if they bred it to a normal. just a few suggestions and feel free to respond with any questions. if you do not intend on breeding the snake then I would wait a little while unitl the market drops lower...but this could be quite a few years before the get under $500 (when you could be producing those expensive babies each year). This is a trait that is called co-dominant (genetically it really isnt..it is incomplete dominant but the market hasnt caught on lol) so you should get 50% normal and 50% pastels in each clutch (give or take) and there is no such thing as a het. pastel. pastels bred to pastels can also get you supers so if you save any females you have you are on your way to making super pastels if you want to breed with the father (which isnt that bad in snakes or you could just sell the babies and buy an unrelated pastel). anyway, you have many options. good luck.

Adopting a ball python... cupid is a male right? I would actually buy a male pastel if i were you. Then get older females since they mature much slower (about 2 years slower...they can mature in less but it is not great and clutches may be smaller). I have a male and although I cant talk price because mark is a friend of mine and i got other expensive snakes from him and bring him business. I will tell you it was less than 900 but still WAY WAY WAY over the $500 tag they may have in a few years. By way over I mean more than a few hundred dollars. but still under 900
