WOOD CHIPS OR CYPRESS MULCH  Isn’t cypress mulch basically wood chips? Whatever you use, stay away from pine or cedar or other woods with high phenol levels. They are toxic to snakes.I myself wouldn’t use wood chips or anything. Doesn’t hold humidity too well, and grows bacteria easy. I’d use newspaper, outdoor carpet, or reptibark. I personally use reptibark, and its great. Holds humidity well, doesn’t need cleaning much except spot cleaning, and a good soak in a bucket of hot water every month or so.
