New ball owner 
Hey i just got my first ball. It is a year old and has been eating live food thus far. I was wondering how hard it would it be for me to get it to start on pre killed food.

Ok, Get a mouse/rat . Take the mouse/rat and put it in a ziplock bag, seal the bag and slam the bag 4 times AS HARD AS YOU CAN (not slamming hard will make the mouse/rat suffer). Take the dead mouse/rat out of the bag (it still might be twitching) and if it isn’t moving offer it to your BP. I suggest using hemostats/tongs/forceps and give it a little motion and your BP should take it, if it doesn’t just drop it in the cage. move them closer to the head of the BP for best effect. Don’t tap the BP on the head with the mice/rats though. After he eats FK(fresh killed) twice try feeding frozen. Completely thaw out the mice/rats (on a plastic bag that is on a piece of metal), then put them in zip loc bags and put the bag in a jar of VERY Hot (as hot as your sink goes) water. seal the jar and run the very hot water over the jar. after around 15 minutes (if your mice are room temp) they will be hot enough to feed.That was advice that Roachey56 gave me. Hope it can help.

Hmm....I’d think slamming a rodent against a wall 4 times AS HARD AS YOU CAN would leave you with a smashed, oozing, bloody mess, rather than a dead mouse intact...Also, why do you have to put the mouse on a piece of metal while thawing? I just put mine, baggy and all, in a hot bowl of water.

it doesn’t
as long as you dont physically throw the rodent that is in the bag to the wall it wont get smushed.Also the piece of metal makes it thaw faster (works for all meat, cooking.....) that way you only spend 5 minutes putting it in a hot thing of water. Rather than switching the water ever 10 minutes for like an hour.

I dunno about you, but with my strength, if I nailed a rodent against a wall 4 times as hard as I could, there’d be a horrible mess. I don’t care if it’s in a bag, box, whatever...the force would break its body up bad.

i don’t think you would. Even when by brother was in shape in the middle of summer he couldn’t even do that much. The skin wont break, its nose might break and it might start to bleed, but that will only make your snake wiling to eat more. A little mess is good, makes the snake more willing.
also, i think i wrote that post to a 12 year old girl so as hard as she can isn’t has hard as you can. I’ve never even made a big mess with a rodent in a bag and i am very strong.
