Idea for a ball python setup okay? Hi! I’m new. I’ve had a ball python for 6 (?) years now, and I think he would enjoy a different tank. He is only about 3.5 feet long, and I think he has stopped growing. He is in a tank with another ball python, and I think that is why he isn’t growing anymore. I would like to buy another 75 gallon, and put it under the fishtank I have in my room. I was thinking of trying to make the tank a half-and-half (part land part water) so the tank humidity would be higher and so my snake will have somewhere to soak during shedding. The water won’t be very deep, just enough for him to submerge himself if he wants to, maybe 2-3 gallons. I would use a glass partition to seperate the two sides. For the water side, I would have a small filter and heater to keep the water clean and warm, and a floating island to make it easier for my snake to switch sides. I would have a smooth gravel bottom, and plenty of fake plants and vines hanging into the water for him to climb out on. For the land side, I was going to buy some jungle substrate and moss. I would have a few large branches sticking out of the ground, and some climbing ledges on the glass for him to bask on. I’d use a tunnel for his hideout, and there would be plenty of shady planty areas for him to cool off in if he so chooses. Sorry about all the writing, but I want to make sure that I provide enough detail so I can have my questions answered. Do you think this would be an okay setup? Do you think this would provide the right kind of humidity for my snake? Should I just leave him where he is now (his current 75 gallon has a tunnel, carpet, some climbing rocks, two heat pads under the tank, and a medium water dish)? Thank you to anyone who responds. Byez!

Idea for a ball python setup okay? That was a very informative post. Thanx for sending it to me. I’m doing something a bit different, here’s an idea of what I want to do...

The brown is driftwood, the gray is climbing rocks, the green lines are climbing vines, the lime green box is the filter, the red is the heater, and the diagonal black line is the glass partition.

Idea for a ball python setup okay? Yeah definately. That’s what the glass divider is for. It will be siliconed in place to prevent water seeping into the land half, and will be rounded so my python can climb over it without getting hurt. I will actually have more like 2/3 land and 1/3 water. I’ll also be putting a floating island in the water portion by the divider so it will be very easy for my python to get out of the water when he wants to.

heres my tank. i built it for around $125. I think its around an 80 gal’s. 3l x 2w x 1.5h might give you some ideas Later, Jake oh, and the hides are under, the ledge that goes around ... the enterences are under the vines.

Idea for a ball python setup okay? most likely having the water will just be a waste of space, as most ball pythons won’t willingly soak and if they do it can be a sign of mites. Also that would probably keep the humidity too high (you want 50-60%) and might cause infections, bacteria growth, and numerous other unwantables.

Idea for a ball python setup okay? Thanx for all the help guys. Should I just leave him where he is then? I don’t think he’s unhappy, I just think he could have a better environment and would like a change of scenery. I just got a 29 gallon fishtank, and I need to set that up for my swordtails before I can work on this anyway. Plus, once that’s taken care of, I need to re-arrange the 55 I have right now so it’s more suitable for my bichirs. I’m guessing that will take a pretty penny out of my funding, but once the funds are back I’ll improve my snakes enclosure. Thanx again for all the help!Byez!!

Idea for a ball python setup okay? It sounds sweet, but not for a bp. Honestly, it’d probably be more for you than him. Like Roachey said, bp’s dont soak often, unless they have a mite problem or are too hot/shed purposes. I think it’d just be more of a hassle to keep the water clean and fresh too(even with a filter). It might be better for a more water-loving species...maybe even a boa. But ya, I think it’s just a needless hassle. Nice idea though.

Boa’s don’t soak that much. why does everyone think boas soak and swim alot? Boa’s raely soak! I mean, Anacondas are technically a Boa, but they are like the only ones that swim. Mosi has never soaked! That would be good for a water snake. Or anaconda, if it was big enough.

Boa’s don’t soak that much. Moving tanks might stress your Royals out to begin with, but a larger tank might do them some good. I don’t think the half and half idea is a good idea, if the humidity is too high you could encounter some helth problems with your Royals .... if you have two housed together you’re going to need a few hides, a couple in the warm area and a couple in the cooler area.My boyfriend has two males housed together and they have been for years .. they get on really well and like to "hide" together too but this is not always the case with other snakes. :o( Make sure you have a large anough water bowl just in case they want a soak - like boababe said her’s never soak and I’ve never seen any of our 4 soak either??? They do like a good drink though .. and I’m not talking whiskey ;) He’s our Royals.. This is Scar

This is Mufasa, Scar’s tank friend.

Our female Eden...

and we also have a 2 and a half month old male called "Boy" but I don’t have any pics uploaded yet. TD.x.

Idea for a ball python setup okay? BoaBabe448; Thanx for the compliment on the snake. That’s the same snake, just different pics.TwilightDreamer1979; I don’t think I have Royals... If I do then cool. I like Eden. She’s very pretty... Anywho, I bought all the stuff for my fishtank so once that’s set up (tomorrow) I’m gonna buy a bigger water dish for my snake. Thanx again for all the help. Sry it took me awhile to respond, I was working... Byez! (what is this smiley doing?)

Idea for a ball python setup okay? lol, yep you do have royals. Ball Pythons are also commonly known as Royal Pythons. Mainly in Europe and such. I think they were called Royal Pythons because in their native home, Africa, the people worship the species, making them royal I guess. Oh, and this smiley is sucking a soother like a baby. (sadly this site doesn’t have the best choice of emoticons...lol)
