Housing Q!! I am new with snake so bare with me, 5 days ago I bought a 27inch bp. It seems to be doing fine. Uncertain of sex. My friend is giving me her bp b/c she cannot have it anymore. It is 25inches and also uncertain about the sex. Would it be OK to house them together do to lack of space or do I HAVE to keep them separated? Do males fight or something like that? Please let me know before I help out a friend and say yes!!!Zach

Housing Q!! I’m no pro, but I would house them seperately no matter what. They aren’t in need of companionship. They would need a huge enclose eventually. They might not get along when they are older. And if they are a male and female- they may breed. With some of this in mind you should decide. I have 2 BP and they are in seperate housing...in fact I had to move one out of view of the other cause they were going crazy against the glass at night time. Sorry like I said I’m no pro, but I hoped this helped a little. Maybe ask ROACHY (he seems to know it all)

Housing Q!! The way I see it, if you can’t properly house the snake with its own cage, don’t take it. Except for breeding purposes, snakes should be kept seperate in their own enclosures. Too many complications arise when housing snakes together. Some of them being feeding, stress, disease, mites, and bowel movements(if you had to bring in a fecal sample for a snake, how would you know which p00 came from which snake?). It’s all too much fuss and trouble to deal with. For a novice keeper, atleast. If you REALLY want to take your friends bp, wait until you have a proper enclosure. It doesn’t have to be anything spectacular. The bare basics won’t cost you much at all. Proper sized rubbermaid/sterilite container - 10 dollars or less Dunlap human heat pad from Walmart - 10-15 dollars 2 clay pot bases for hides - no more than 2 dollars Acurite digital thermometer/hygrometer with probe - 10-15 dollars newspaper for substrate - free/cost of the morning newspaper water dish - free or a few dollars for a small rubbermaid bowl Then you’d have to have the enclosure put together and properly heated for a day or two prior to getting the snake, so you know it’ll live comfortably. If you ask me, it sounds like you’re jumping into it. Whatever you do, don’t house the two snakes together. Too many complications can arise. If you do take your friends snake, I’d keep them seperate for atleast a few weeks and quarantine your friends snake to make sure you’re not introducing any disease/mites to your other snake. Also try to get a vet appointment for a good check up. Good luck. -Cody

Housing Q!! Thanks for your advice, Well yesterday I made room. So they can and will be housed properly. She also giving me her whole set-up: lights, hides, branches..everything even the 50g tank! I got lucky. She took the snake to the vet yesterday and everything is fined. She got the snake probed, which I am not too fond of, and it turns out to be a male. The one I have is a female. The breeder had her probed before I bought her. Thanks for your help again Pelota! Here is another pic of her!

Housing Q!! Cute. How big is the snake?(cant remember if you mentioned in another post) If it’s young, and like under 2 feet, a 50g tank might be a bit too big for it. Of course you could crowd it with lots of hides and fake plants and stuff. Also, may I ask why you weren’t fond of her getting the snake probed? lol

Housing Q!! Well the snake is about 32 inches and I herd probing was dangerous. My Cousin’s snake dies from probing. But I guess it is OK if the person knows what they are doing right??

Housing Q!! The only way a snake can die from probing is if you have a moron using too small of a probe and punctures it all the way throught the snakes organs..and even then I have never heard of death only permanat injury. honestly there is not much need to probe it unless you are selling or breeding it.

Housing Q!! Yeah, usually probing is safe as long as the person doing it has general knowledge of the technique to doing so. I can’t see a snake dying from being probed, lol. Unless the person probing the snake was intentionally trying to harm it. You’d have to shove that probe so far into the snake...and like Eunectes said, even then I don’t think it’d kill the snake. I don’t agree with probing being useless unless the snake is being sold or bred though. I think generally people like to know what gender their snake is. I bought my bp as a pet, but still like to know it’s a female, so that down the road if I do ever want to breed, I know to pick up a male, lol.So in conclusion: Probing is perfectly safe, as long as the person doing the probing is experienced enough and isn’t just blindly poking and sticking a probe in.
