 REPTI THURM UTH

heres the story. i have one under my glass tank w/ astro-turf as my bottom. the pet-store owner (a friend) told me that it would be fine, and i think it is, but my stupid plastic thermometer (from the old pic.(ballsthebest photos) gonna replace it for hannukah) is 1 inch from the bottom of the hot side, but it reads only 80 F. should i do something, or is it just inacurate?

If it’s a stick on thermometer you get from pet stores, then yes, it’s inaccurate. I’d suggest going to Walmart or Target or something like that and looking for the Acurite digital thermometer/hygrometer with probe. It should have two temperature readings, and a humidity reading, all in one. Just put the base unit on the cool side to measure the cool side temperature, then put the probe on the other side of the tank under the warm hide. That way you’ll have accurate temperature readings for the cool side, hot side, and humidity. It shouldn’t cost you more than 15 dollars, and it’s worth the money. Try looking for that, then see what your temperatures are, and go from there.

Whatever they are, it’s worth it. I’m sure you can find them for cheaper though...most people I know seem to find them for around 15 dollars at Walmart.

It saddens me that you seem upset at the price. It’s for the well being of your snake. Would you rather not have a clue what the temperatures and humidity actually is, and risk your snake getting ill or dying. Or would you rather dish out some money and have a real accurate idea of the temperatures and humidity in the snakes environment? You wouldn’t believe the money I put into my snakes tank before I got her. I spent 30 dollars for two digital thermometers. Then 20 dollars for a nice human heat pad. 12 dollars for reptibark. About 10 dollars in fake leaves and plants. Then 100 dollars for the snake. But I dont regret anything. It’s well worth the money to have a healthy and happy herp. But if you’d rather hold off because of money, that’s your choice.

it’s not that i wouldnt pay for it. i looked online at all these diff. stores and they’re all over $20. its just that everybody says 10-15 bucks so i assumed that people actually knew where they sold they for that much.

walmart, target, and k-mart are general household stores. They sell everything frome gardening and lawn equipment (seasonally) to clotheing. I don’t know of a UK equivalent.

Another brand to consider is oregon scientific. I got a digital therm with probe for 4.88 on sale, usually 8 bucks (BTW its cheaper than two reptile analog therms).

Dude they’re more expensive because you’re looking online...Most people say they’re 10-15 dollars because we buy them at Walmart and other places like that. We don’t buy them off the internet. Even if you did find one on the internet that’s cheaper than 10-15 dollars, you’re not going to save much after shipping costs. Just find a local Walmart, Target, etc. and look there.

I just looked on walmart.com and didn’t find the acurite digital thermometer with probe...or anything similar. That’s why I say to look in stores. It’ll be a reasonable price, I’m sure. It’s well worth the price. As I said, it’s either guess the temps with the stick ons, or throw 10-15 dollars into an accurate thermometer you can trust.
