 Is this a sign?

I currently own two ball pythons, a male and a female. As of lately we have kept them in the same cage except during and after feeding. Today when we fed our girl, she ate three small/medium mice (which is normal for her) and then when it was time to put her back in her cage she struck at me, even drew blood. This is definitely not normal for her, she has a very gentle disposition. We ended up feeding her 2 more mice of the same size, which we set in the cage and she ate on her own. She struck at the glass as my mom walked by her, and has been extremely agitated. Is it possible she may be pregnant?

I doubt it. If she was gravid, she’d be most likely refusing to eat, and staying on the warm side. One thing I suggest is to seperate the snakes. Too many complications arise from housing two snakes in the same cage. I won’t go into all of them, but lets just say it’s not a good idea to house them together. It could easily be stress, or the fact that she just ate, and you might have had the smell of rodent on you still.

But yeah, try seperating them, and giving them their own enclosures. It’s best for the health and well being of your snakes.

Last night my mom saw her laying under her lamp with her belly up, which is a sign of being gravid to my knowledge. We did talk to some people, and they said that more than likely when we bought her she was pregnant, and that our male did not impregnate her.

then why are you feeding mice? That is wy to small of a prey item for an adult female ball. She must be over 2000 grams if she is gravid or you will have problems.

she eats more than one mouse, last feeding she ate five on her own, but the next feeding (friday) we’re going to go up a size since it is that many. I also have a baby corn snake that gets fed, the food is getting costly. I can put a picture of her on here if you like, or both the balls, or the balls and the corn, whichever. Any suggestions would be helpful since these are my first snakes

Wow, your first snakes and you already have a gravid female ball. Good luck with that.

I still hope you’re considering my advice and seperating them. Also, if I were you, I’d read up A LOT on ball python breeding and try to get prepared. Also, food shouldn’t be costly. Snakes can be one of the least expensive pets to own. One appropriate sized rodent a week basically. So instead of feeding so many mice, try just feeding one rodent the same size as the thickest part of her.

I feel sorry for you, and wish you the best of luck if your female is indeed gravid. Snake breeding isn’t like breeding mice or rabbits or anything.

But yeah, anyway, I’d highly advise you seperate the snakes. Keeping two or more snakes in one cage is not a good plan.

They are currently seperate, and will continue to be for quite a while, unless she tries to break out of hers and get into his again...We did talk to someone and they said that it most likely our male did not get her pregnant, but that we bought her that way...My dad just happened to be in the pet store (the owner breeeds all of his animals himself, no petco or big stores like that that have no idea what to do) when it was brought in, the previous owner was moving and didnt want it anymore. We got both our Balls for $20 each, and our Corn snake for free

Well I hope everything works out for you. If the guy at the pet store that breeds his own snakes is a good reliable breeder, I’m sure he’ll help you through it all. Good luck.

Oh, and MAKE SURE YOUR SNAKES CANT GET OUT OF THEIR CAGES lol. No matter what, your enclosures have to be escape proof. Snakes are escape artists, and quite strong. I weigh my cage top down with two cinder blocks. That’s to keep in a little 4 month old bp. Over-prepared? Maybe...but atleast I’ll know she’ll never get outta there and escape on me.
