I can’t tell you why they get bigger,, but they do. Either one is fine. And the females will max at 6ft, so it shouldn’t be a problem if you get male of female.

The females get bigger because they’re genetically and naturally supposed to get bigger. Basically, they are bigger so they can handle the task of becoming gravid, and laying the eggs. As for which is better, it’s all up to you. I myself didn’t care whether I got a male or female. I just picked out the best looking one, and the breeder later told me it was a female. I’m happy with what I got, and I’m sure I would’ve been just as happy with a male.
