Question before i make a purchase? i have been doing research on ball pythons and i am thinking of getting one. i currently own a grey baded king. i no pretty much everything i need to for the b.p. but i was just wondering do most of you feed yours live or frozen?(i feed my king frozen i want to feed him live but do not want him to get hurt so im not sure yet i will probably stick with frozen)ok but so is a B.P faster with its strike than a king and more accuret? so that it probably wont get bit or scratched? and if i do get one i do not want him to get injured so i will do what is best for him but i was just wondering is a B.P. good with live food or should i go the frozen route again?? thank you zac

Question before i make a purchase? Since ball pythons constrict their food, and not bite to kill, you should most definitley either feed them frozen or prekilled mice. It’s both easier and safer to do it this way, and it insures that your ball python does not get an injury and/or infection.

Question before i make a purchase?
I’m in no way familiar with that area but online many people are quite happy using RodentPro there wou can buy frozen mice online for a lot cheaper than you’ll probably find anywhere else. You could try a general chain of petstores as well, but around here if you hint that they’re used as food they refuse to sell them to you. If you go to a petstore though, you do have to buy live and kill them yourself.

Question before i make a purchase? i have not a single problem feeding live. I supervise its feeding though and make sure he gets it. I would never leave the mouse in their while I am not home. I have just had no problems feeding live, in my case!Zach

Question before i make a purchase? I’m pretty new at Ball Python’s myself. So they constrict when eating? Isn’t that the same thing as the boa constrictor? What’s the difference between the two then if they both do it and only one has the name of it? I know Royal(Ball)Pythons curl into a ball for protection and that’s the name dub but it doesn’t make sense if they both do it. What’s the diffrence? ~Ryo~

Question before i make a purchase? Well to answer ur question Ryoflex, and freak out on you, yes bp also constrict but not as much as a boa. When I feed my Bp it strikes it’s neck and then curls his first 5 inches of his body around it. I also think it relies on where it strikes rather than how much it constricts.. I hoped I semi answered your question!Zach PS: I have no idea who named them differently

Question before i make a purchase? Female Ball Python’s always lay eggs no matter what like iguana females? And do boa’s have to mate in order to produce live young or does it just happen? Sorry if that seems stupid. Which one gets longer and bigger? I like Ball Python’s but I kind of want a snake where they head and neck area are the same thickness as the body. Ball’s seem to have a skinny neck and tiny head. ~Ryo~

Question before i make a purchase? Generally it’s; Male BP = 3-4 feet. Female BP = 4-5 feet. There are exceptions of course. All snakes will be different. A female can get up to 6 feet. But it’s rare. As for feeding live....I would strongly suggest staying away from it. If you can, get any and all snakes on frozen thawed or prekilled. Sure, mice might not do much damage physically, but mentally they do some damage. A bite from a mouse can scare a bp off feed for months. BUT....you get up to feeding live rats when they get bigger, and you’re just asking for trouble. A live rat is much bolder, and has much sharper and larger teeth to do damage to a bp. I hate to show this picture, but it gets the message across. This is a picture of the aftermath of a BP after an owner left a live rat with it’s bp. It’s an extreme case, but one bite to the head can kill a ball python...and sadly, as much as you think you’re in control when you have hemostats or tongs or sticks to stop the rat from chewing...you probably won’t be able to stop all bites. Sadly, in this picture, the snake is still alive and suffering. Suffering Ball So please, don’t risk the damage. Try to get all of your snakes on prekilled or frozen thawed feeders. Oh, and as for a ball python being quick or accurate...they’re not very. They’re known to miss strikes. Not the most accurate strike for a snake. And even if they strike and coil nicely, a rodent can still gnaw and claw at the snake as it’s struggling for its life.

my lord, i will never feed my new baby bp a live thing EVER! I SUPPOSE THE POOR BALL HAD TO BE PUT T SLEEP OR DEATH! I hate to see people that don’t look out for there animal, even if it is a snake, i’ve heard people say that they are "capable of getting the rodent" but now it’s like, at what cost.anyways, so the guy just came home to his snake half dead? you must have been a friend or sdomethi9ng because you have a picture! sad sad sad i guess we must remember that soem people don’t know how to use there brain!

Question before i make a purchase? If you type in ball python in google, and look in images, that picture is on one of the pages. So he probably isn’t a friend, I found that a few weeks ago looking for pictures.Anyways, when you put something to sleep, you are putting it out of its misery, in otherwords, killing it.

Question before i make a purchase? How do ball pythond survive in the wild(because they certanly aren’t getting nice frozen micies out there)? Do they prey off sickly or dead animals? Or is it just that in the wild they prey off smaller rodents? Or is it that captivity has turned our BP’s into a bunch of sissies ...

Question before i make a purchase? In the wild, they eat live. They’ll raid rodent burrows when they can and eat all the occupants. But of course they’ll get bit. Older bp’s in the wild would have battle scars and stuff. But also, they don’t live as long as captive species we keep. They have far too many predators, and diseases, and other stuff, to survive very long in the wild. Also, in the wild, if a predator bites them, they can back off and find a place to escape. In a cage, when being forced to live with a live animal in a small space...they can’t run from a rat that’s biting them and chewing them up. Oh, and as for the snake being too small for rats. I don’t know how big the snake is. All I know is the owner dropped in a live rat and left the snake alone to eat. The snake apparently didn’t want it, and the rat did what rats do...bite things for no reason. The rat chewed and chewed the snake overnight, and when the guy checked on the snake in the morning, he found that. Oh, and I studied the pic. Looks like two sheets of paper towel, one folded over the other. I’m sure the snake was large enough to take a small rat. Either way...it was given a live rat. And was brutally chewed up by it.

Question before i make a purchase? That brings me to ask another question, why do snakes/reptiles let their food chew on them? I’ve heard of stories like yours and other stories with lizards being chewed on by crickets. Why don’t these reptiles have enough common sense to kill the thing that is hurting them(like in the severe cases that Pelota showed)?

Question before i make a purchase? I’d say that mainly with BP’s being chewed up like that, it’s because they’re very docile, shy creatures who would probably rather curl up in a ball rather than strike. I really don’t know why though.

Question before i make a purchase? I really don’t think that they have the brain power to think about it. They have very small brains and I think most of their survival skills are not much more than instinct and "gut" reaction.
