yeah i do this was the unplanned breeding so far 4 wit hone to go I found an easy ( biteless) way to remove the eggs too I put the 4 in incubator and am currently uploadign those pics. They were both from rescue ( same person ) who started college and had to give them up .. The matting accord around oct and she done the prelay shed around april 16th. I don’t think they be anything but normal bps unless they were het and i was never told . then it be a great surpise . outside the eggs (will be rereading my books and note tonight ) I wonder how soon I can possible feed her? she now smallin diameter than the eggs. Iwant o get her back up in weight and feeding cause i hate to lose her over an unplanned event and all. I will most like consdier finding these 3 ( the breeding pair ) and a 3rd recue up for adoptions this summer.

Oh ouch that does look painful but what a great shot you got of the egg laying in process.

We candled and weighed the clutches before they went into their incubator boxes. You should be able to clearly see veining in the fertile eggs and the eggs are normally around the 100 gram mark per egg give or take (total weight of clutch divided by number of eggs in clutch).

Congrats on the eggs!

cool thanks for the info I was rereading my book and it never said when to candle ( i was thinkngi you had to let the egg sit for a couple days first ).. I gonigo t try and feed her a small rat tomorrow ( attemptto get her back on a pattern with the rest of the groups .. so I guess I got lucky she had them today and not some time after tomorrow ..

Mine usually won’t eat for a week or so after laying... so don’t be too disappointed if she doesn’t eat tomorrow.

You’re almost there!!!

as promise I got a group pic of them in the incubator. i have the digital and an old fashion type to give me a best reading ( note I had this running for about 3 weeks before the eggs were laid) ..

temps sits about 86-89 and the uhmidty stays at 85 % I not able ot get the readingd to go high so may be the limit it has..

If you’re using the hovabator... just don’t get your hopes up. : /
Mine were in there about two weeks before the new incubator came, and they were already gone.

*Sorry to sound so negative*

 I come home to eggs!!!

well i have been watching it plus I have a digital gauge to keep and eye on temp and humidty. I also don’t have my hope high since this is a first time event for me. I think the next time I will set up an tank like when I hatched turtle eggs I prevent a raccon from getting lol.. out of like 28 eggs i had about a 50% success rate but consdiering I only used an old heating pad under the tank and I didn’t know a fraction of what I do about reptiles now. I though I did good. I do plan on building one out of a cooler late in the summer for the next time .. ( be 2-3 years) if I do hatch anythign it be a nice surpise for me ) double so if a morph .. but I doubt my luck .. and am keeping an eye on the eggs.

what seen to be everyone problem with the hovabator incubators and kiilnig eggs ?? temp air flow moisture lost ??

too much ?? I was under the impression that you had to keep it high for the eggs to hatch ? I can always lower the humdity ( removing water from the bottom and such ) I just don’t want to kill the eggs if preventable .. what is it so post to be ?? I know my gauge says like 85 % and has since i set it up..

motify that the humidty is at 85% when sitting on top like in the pic. I placed it on the grate to see what kind of readings i get .. temp the same humidty dropped like 4 %

They may just have had thiers too high. Yours could be good. I have never used one but it is easy to over mix vermculite The bad I got a few days ago was already so moist.

well I also placed asecondary didgital gauge in the incubator and found the temp is running about 85 degrees not the 89 the one says so I adjusted the temps up about a degree. so between the 2 digital and the older fashion themroter type I have a more correct reading as for th ehumidty I too kand squeezed the vermculite until no water dripped out ( first 1-1.5 inchs deep) and allowed the reamin to say like it was .. that has dropped the humidty down to about 70% which i think was needed cause one of the eggs looks like it was wet on the bottom (water stained) so I dried it with a paper towel. With out turn the eggs .. I repalced them on the verm and will have to wait and see..

 I come home to eggs!!!

The humidity in my hovabator was stable for about a week. Then it jumped up really high, and the eggs got really plump and "bubbly" looking. I tried to air it out to try and get the humidity down... which sort of worked.
After a few days of that, they all just collapsed and started yellowing out.

It really killed me watching them just die off one at a time. : /

 I come home to eggs!!!

well I hope for better luck and if they make it and hatch there will be some little guys looknig or homes .. asl oanother question on eggs. ( I know nothing on this subject). are bp eggs so post ot be smooth like chicken eggs after they harden(stiffen up 0 or is it ok for them to look like they a piece of wadded up play doo?? The eggs look find color/shape wise but they are bumpy like raw doe or playdoo ball. another way to think of what they look like is road paving ( not smooth) ..

as for humidty it has stayed at a65-69 % while i was gone and every thing . temps stay above 86 and below 90 so I am hopnig they’ll do fine.. If they fail I rip the guts out of the unit and set it back up with flexwatt or build the cooler one later this summer.

Not sure, but I think humidity is supposed to be around 85% ....better bump it up...
and get a digital therm/hydrometer like you have (or should have) in the snake enclosures, so that you Know what it is.

In one of your posts you said you have a digital... maybe check the batteries, or use a better quality one.
Wish I could help you more... this is one subject I am illiterate with - Sorry

have a digital inside and it reading 65% ( at bottom of incubator ) it was reading 85% when it was sitting with eggs and then the vermculite was just shy of bing dripping wet. ( I squeezed moisture out of it ) so I squeezed ()5 of the verm to drain it and the humdity lowered some..
I will try to get a pick of the eggs , not sure how to get the bumps to show up lol.. I will point out these bumps are were he eggs looked thinner( semi transparent )

egg bumps

white gauge in lower inc show humidty

this is the temp probe I have sitting right with the eggs for a temp reading it reads 86.9 degree

 I come home to eggs!!!

Here’s the post from Satanic Intention that states why the Hovabators aren’t so good. My memory failed me, I thought she said it made them too wet, but they dry the air out for python eggs. Hovabators work well for leopard gecko eggs, though. I’ll have to invest in another incubator for my snake eggs.

Quote:

They’re too wet. Get a 6qt tub, put a soppy but firm mixture of perlite and water, put the flouorescent light diffuser grating on top of that(2 layers works best) and put the eggs on top of that. Seal the top with Glad Press N Seal, put the 6qt’s lid on, and put it in the incubator. Then leave it alone!

I have pictures but they aren’t on this computer. This, kids, is why we don’t use chicken incubators(that dry the air out) for python eggs. It just doesn’t work and generally ends up in disaster. Hopefully these can be saved.

I would also get some spray-on liquid bandage for the wet spots as well as some antifungal foot powder, just in case any of the eggs start to get that fuzzy mold on them.

 I come home to eggs!!!

You want 98%-100% Humidity, however you do not want condensation dripping on your eggs because it could damage them!

As far as hovabator I have heard more bad things about them than good (between cooking the eggs and not keeping humidity I doubt I would ever recommend them)

Also seems to me that the easiest way to incubate is using a substrate less method (at least you don’t have to worry about your substrate being too damp)
