Balls As Good Python Pets?
I have three corn snakes that I’ve had for just under a year now, and recently I’ve been thinking aobut getting another, but a different species. I’ve been doing a bit of reading, and from what I’ve learnt so far Ball Pythons are a good step up from corns in terms of size and husbandry. I’ve been reading the "Setting Up Your Ball Python Enclosure" thread, but the link to the caresheets doesn’t seem to be working, so I just wanted to ask if I’m right in thinking that Balls are not so different from corns? Thanks for an comments! |

Also, as ScyllaCharybdis would say... Buy the $10 book, and READ the $10 book....

Balls requirer higher temps and higher humidity them corns, and they stress a bit easier. Also, corns can have bigger enclosures where as a bigger enclosure can stress a BP out. It wouldbe best to have the enclosure set-up ahead of time, this way, anything that is wrong can be fixed. Here is a link for a forum post that talks about the bp’s cage and such. Read through it, see if this is a snake you’d like to work with, and if so, start working on a cage. If you have any questions or have a problem, feel free to post here asking fo rhelp!! I had a kingsnake as my first and then moved onto a ball python. They’re definately more challenging and require a little more attention and stricter environments. Maintaining temperatures and humidity is one of the things I had to learn to do. I also got a very picky eater and had to adjust to that but I think they tend to be picky eaters in general. I wouldn’t say they’re as tame as a rock but...as far as snakes go they’re pretty calm. I have one with a touch of a temper but he doesn’t do anything more than hiss, this only happens when I have to remove him from a hide to clean the tank though. I don’t take him out unless he’s already wandering around in his tank. |

They’re easy to take care of, as long as you have their temps and their humidity where they should be, you’ll have a happy BP in your care. But I heard corns are much easier to take care of than BP’s in a way that corns are more forgiving if the husbandry isn’t met. |
