 Flexwatt problem

I got my flexwatt wired up with the clamps. its 17x25 piece. the clamps pierced throuch the metal and has a good grip. all insulated but as you can see in the pictures i cant get a good temp. in the pictures i had it pluged into the wall not being controleld at all for 1 hour and barely hits 90. Everything is brand new

well, one hr probably isn’t enough to see it’s full potential, it might take longer than that to reach it’s max temp.

the thing is i had it pluged in all ngiht one time in the snake room where its 80 on carpet and still was only at 90. and once i unplug it, it droped back to 75. and i use the johnson a419 so it wouldnt be a good thing to use then if it drops fast but takes for ever to reach. im gonan try one more trick and solder the wire on the metal if it dont work then it mgiht be the heat tape is faulty. or it dont need a t-stat to controll it.

You need to control it with a thermostat or rheostat.

I would recommend the Johnson thermostat from reptile basics. Link

I use both the Helix and Johnson, but honestly don’t notice a difference.

$80 pre-wired. It will get your heat up, and you’ll have safe snakes. ( ;

*When using heat tape, or any other heat source for that matter, it is important to control it with a quality thermostat, rheostat, or dimmer.*

Hm.... tough call... it obviously works b/c it is getting warm...

I only one one occasion had an issue w/ flexwatt- and it wasnt getting warm at all, so my piece was defective...

Maybe yours isn’t working correctly? I would call up who you got it from, and explain that it only gets to 90 degrees and you need it hotter- maybe they’ll refund you or send you out another piece? Either way, they maybe able to help you better then me.

Best wishes!
