All 40+ of mine fed IN their enclosures. Have been doing this since 04 and have not been bitten while snakes are in feeding mode.

oh I was gonna ask that too!! Well.. since the majority of you say it’s fine, then I don’t think I’ll worry about the other tank. I haven’t had a problem with him yet so I was still debating. As long as I give him time to digest he’s fine.

I started out out of the enclosure, but now I will definately always feed in the enclosure. Well not always, unless special circumstances apply.

 General Question

lets see... I feed the 2 boas in their enclosure.. (they are on newspaper) I feed the big corn and the BP in separate enclosures b/c I’m an overprotective mommy and scared that they will swallow aspen.... the new corns get fed this week... and their enclosure has aspen also...but I don’t really know which I’ll do yet... and the baby Balls coming today will be on newspaper for now... so I’m assuming that when I feed them... they’ll get fed in their enclosure too... if for no other reason than stress reduction. I’m so strange about supervising feedings that it takes me a while to feed everyone individually ( I also feed live)

 General Question

I feed min in a seperate tank. I started this because my snakes kept getting mites and were miserable. Since I started feeding in a seperate tank (and spraying before putting him back in the enclosure) I haven’t had a problem with it anymore.

If your feeders have mites I would recommend you to switch suppliers, providing the best quality food for your animal is what you should strive for. (Mites infested feeders are not quality feeders)

Also mites found on rodents are not the one found on snakes and vice versa they are species specific.

 General Question

Your snake cannot get mites from the rodents. They are species-specific and only affect that certain species: ie, rat lice/mites, snake mites. Your snake likely had mites and just kept getting reinfested since it wasn’t taken care of properly(Provent A Mite or Black Knight right off the bat).

 General Question

I changed pet stores several times and it never helped. I talked to several local snake experts about the problem and they kept suggesting things that didn’t work. I finally changed to feeding in a seperate enclosure and the problem ended. Since it seemed to fix the problem, I continue to do it. The pet store fed him in a seperate tank before I got him so he was used to it and it doesn’t harm him any to do it. It keeps the mouse’s filthy self out of his nice clean cage anyway.

 General Question

All 35 snakes fed in their enclosures.
Number of aggressive acts by snakes that mistaked my hand for food when I went to get them out...NONE.
Benefit to feeding out of enclosure that I am aware of...NONE.

 General Question

All of ours are fed in their enclosures. I feed at the moment 100+ live prey items per month and have yet to be tagged by a snake that thought my hand was a rat.
