OT - why rats are the best parents.

I have a baby gerbil that is being fostered by my 3 nursing rats... I was not sure, figured that they would not deal with it, but sure enough, they are toiletting it, nursing it, the whole nine yards.

There is cute and then there is really cute. :)

I am also experimenting a bit...

One of my mice gave birth to six pinks and a few days later I fed all six off.

The I took two (just born) ASF Rat pinks and placed them in the nest as replacements.

So far...It’s been 72 Hours and the Momma mouse is still nursing them and they are growing!!

This little gerbil was with a mother that is not the best parent... she tends to have 3 babies a litter and then 2 always die, and the last one takes forever to grow. This little guy was just failing to thrive, I figured he was not going to make it.

I put him in with the rats and in 2 days I can already see a huge diff. Amazing how quickly rodents develop at that age. :)
