 Bag of Snakes

Ok everyone.. they are here... and you’d think I had just given birth the way I am smiling NON STOP. I ordered 10, 5 males 5 females. Because I paid in full, Brandon sent me an extra female to say thank you. Out of 11 snakes, as you might guess, they are all normal lol. Actually, 3 have some orangish yellow on them, 2 look like milk chocolate with the markings looking kinda like caramel icecream topping (these 2 have white tongues..does anyone know if this means they are maybe dehydrated.. or anything) and the other 6 look like normals... and I’m quite sure they are all normals... just some with a different little look. Anyway.. I am giddy like a 16 year old on my first date. I am a little concerned because everyone told me that they would be nippy.. and I haven’t been bitten once... maybe they are too scared to bite anything. lol anyway... will take pics once everyone is settled... however the thumbnails on my camera doesn’t download them small enough to be able to upload onto forum (as of yet.. I’ll play with it when I get a chance)
So... if any of you wanted to do this... and didn’t take a chance... I’d actually recommend it.. however, I have yet to worm them or try to get them to eat...that’s when the real fun should begin. Updates in about a week.

Suz

I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but what is a bag of snakes. I mean, by the name it sounds pretty easy to figure out but are they wild caught and all normals or can you get different morphs.

Thanks
Jim

YAY!!!

Bag of snakes!!!

Now got off your snake loving butt and figure out how to upload some pictures, as some of us opted to not get a bag of snakes this year (getting one next year) and need to live vicariously through others.

Bruce

ps: Just so no one gets wrong idea, Susan is not walking around with a purse full of snakes... or is she?

There is no need to deworm them. Newly CH babies have never had a drink out of Africa, nor have they eaten there either. They haven’t even had their first shed. The only parasites they "might" have are ticks, and those are easily gotten rid of(those egg ticks are very common). It is highly unlikely they have internal parasites, unless you’re getting them in July or something(late season babies, generally very poor quality). I’ve never had to deworm any of the CH babies I’ve taken in, they are always very healthy.

Plus, deworming just puts more stress on their body that they don’t need, and will get rid of the beneficial bacteria they need to digest properly.

Now, if they don’t eat after 7 weeks, then you might consider assist feeding :) But we’ll figure that out if that happens..

Ok I’ll look at the link... plus I want to upload all of my corns... (Chris and Chuck have seen them already) hubby is looking at the camera right now... we may be able to adjust the thumbnail size on the camera itself... but I PROMISE as soon as I figure it out... you’ll get to see.

No one answered me... the white tongues... there are only 2 of them.. I’m not trying to sound stupid... I just want to know if I should be concerned.

do you guys agree that i don’t need to worm them?

Thanks for all the help!

P.S. Hey Bruce.....Even for normals... they are adorable!

Susan

Ask any of the large breeders, and they will say you do not have to deworm them unless they are having problems. Get a fecal done at your veterinarian if you are concerned. A fecal test is the only way to determine if you need to deworm and what to deworm with. You can’t get rid of tapeworms with pyrantel, if that’s what they have.

On the white tongues, I really don’t know. They may just need to be rehydrated(soaked in lukewarm water once or twice a day, and plenty of fresh water available). I got 2 08 CH females this past weekend and they both just had their first shed and I will be trying to feed them later this week.

Have any of yours had their first sheds? Hope you have alot of live hopper mice :)

SI.. thanks for the advice.. and yes they are all in the process of shedding... so I’ll be taking pics asap. I’m not concerned yet as far as the parasites go... I’ve had a couple breeders tell me to worm them..but I am still open to suggestions.. now that they seem a little more used to things... they are rather hissy... but I want to get everyone settled and leave ’em alone.

As you guys can tell from the pics being posted of my collection... hubby resized the pictures on the camera itself... they are uploading perfectly now...so I’ll try and hurry. Thanks you guys for all the advice.

None of us will argue that there is nothing normal about the normals. :)

When I got my newest girl I just died. That wee sweet face is too hard to resist... 80g and my smallest snake yet.

I think having so many to compare patterning and coloration with each other would be an absolutely amazing experience.
