 More Marshmallows!!! Clutch 2!

Yay! Echo went 33 days post shed and she finally laid today. She was laying when I first checked on her about 4:15 this afternoon and had 2 eggs laid at that time. So I put her back up and called Kara for moral support and waited until about 7:45 to check on her again and had four lovely marshmallows (which is what I had palpated and was expecting).

Echo was bred to my 100% het clown male Oliver so I’m hoping for all females in this clutch.

Here they are on one of their dates - she is of course the darker and larger one:

Her today (and I had turned the flexwatt down earlier today so that it wasn’t too warm)

The four marshmallows (still no jokes about the stove shots! LOL)

In the egg box:

And I’d like some feedback from those who are experienced with eggs - is this something to be concerned about or I should watch carefully through incubation? What causes it?

Being the perfectionist that I am - I wasn’t happy to see it:

Nice. How many clutches you expexting this year. I had one with a window like that on it that turn white like the rest the shell after a few days and hatched fine.

I won’t because really marshmallows and stove don’t go together - marshmallows and a nice camp fire now we’re talking.

Crossing all my crossable fingers for an ALL GIRL CLUTCH

(I guess you beat be to number 2)

Fine... I’ll take the bait.

"So Robin... when you are done cooking those eggs, are you going to cook them?"... or something like that?

Not sure if your stove hits 90.0 degrees accurately, you may need to wire it with a thermostat and a ceramic heater... oh and then stick it (the stove) in an incubator to control your temps. :)

CONGRATS! I know how sweet you are on that boy of yours so I am crossing all my *bits* (uncomfortable? VERY!).

Congrats. I think the window is from her not having enough calcium to fully calcify the egg. They usually hatch out without a problem.

Thanks Bruce! I’m actually incubating at 89 degrees, as I’m too nervous to go much higher!

They look wonderful Rab! I think that window egg will do fine (mine did) but then this is my first year with eggs so I’m as "newb" as you are when it comes to eggs.

Just keep an eye on it for any mold development and I wouldn’t bury the window in incubation substrate anymore than you have to.

Congrats on your second clutch my friend!

Rab... incubation question pour vous. :)

I am using the hatchrite as well, for my first clutch I used the light grating and elevated them.

But I think that my Olive is going to having a bigger clutch, and having seen how big the eggs are. I was thinking of using just the H-Rite and nestling the eggs in it for the second clutch, basically to save space.

How are you finding the H-rite? It was suggested to you by Kevin and Kara right?

I ask as I will be out of town soon and worry that olive will not lay before I go so I want to have everything set up for Jer. All he will have to do it open the incubator and put the eggs in.

Yup, Kara and Kevin are using Hatchrite exclusively, as is Brian at BHB I believe.

Keep in mind it’s only been four days for the first clutch. And yes, I just nestle it into the Hatchrite. I also use Glad Press & Seal and then put the lid on top of that. Watch your eggs weekly - if you notice dimpling any earlier than 2 weeks before hatching, add an ounce of water in one corner of the egg box and it will distribute throughout the media.

So far I’m pretty happy with it!
