I got my first ball python! it’sfunny i’ve been on the site for awhile now but everybody seems to be so hyper about peoples different opinions and i just decided that i would listen in and not talk. Anyways just thought i would announce that i got a bp. I won’t be sending pictures because people are always finding something to argue about but i will tell you that he’s got leaves a hot hide and a cool side, lots of hides and he isn’t hiding and he is eating good so i KNOW that he is fine. i really wih that people weren’t so judgemental on the sight then more people wouldn’t be worried about making soemone agry and after you’ve angered one, the hole system gangs up on you. i just wanted to explain that because i really don’t want someone or all of you ganging up on me.i came on hoping to have conversation about bps and i ended up being afraid that i say something that all of you don’t agree with and making enemies just because i’m new. i’ve been going to talk under boas becuase the people somehow seem to except you and don’t hold you and fault just because you are learning.
anyways, i’ve been directed to this si8ght and after this message i’ll see how many people gang up on me and if they do, i’ll disappear, but realistically we all should be aqble to talk about our opinions with a certin gang that must have become good friends deciding they will scare you or make you feel unwanted so that the new people disappear. THAT IS MY OPINION
WHICH IN M,OST CHATS ARE ALLOW TO HAVE WITHOUT PREJUDICE! thanks, i guess i’ll see what happens!

I got my first ball python! I’ve made the same observation. I believe insecurity is the culprit. I’ve found that insecurity about the slightest possibility of being wrong sometimes leads to jumping on people who may have different opinions. IMHO many of the conversations in forums like this one are based on conjecture and not facts. Facts have a basis which can be backed up by referencing either X number of years of experience, education or herpetology books and/or periodicals, otherwise they’re just someone’s opinion. Don’t get me wrong, opinions are wonderful, they’re just not always based on facts even though they are often presented as though they were. On that note; many of the people who post here are nice people who offer and accept opnions without prejudice or confrontation, and can offer useful tips that can improve your husbandry. So don’t be put off by a few angry folks. Sites like these are a good resource for information. Also, thank you for pointing out how counter productive it is to be "hyper about peoples different opinions" and good luck with your new snake!

I got my first ball python! thanks, that accutaly is the reason i was pointing it out. i’ve listened to many hyper arguements that each person bolth base on fact and sometimes the opinion. But i find that with some people the minute you get a snake or get started on this site people are just itching to tell u that "they know best" which leads to the hyper talk and long explainations that end up not helping anyone (especially the new owner who are looking for advice) with there many different opinions and facts. i feel u either die put due to the arguing or u pick someone withwhom you agree most woth their facts and sometimes because u do that it causes animosity amongst other people. i still TREALLY need information but i don’t want to be gutted because i’m asking something some see as unimportant or that i shouldn’t have a snake if i don’t know this thanks for your encouragment

I got my first ball python! Hmmm...wow you sorta put this site down pretty good. o_O When you say all of that, you’re sorta inviting criticism and arguments. I’m sure if you hadn’t said all of that and just announced you got a ball python, all would be fine. I don’t understand what you meant by that also. Most people here don’t argue, and at the most, push their opinions a bit hard because we’re trying to make sure the owner is taking care of their herp the best they can.Anyway, congrats?

I got my first ball python!
that wasn’t my reason for doing that. i just see like in the one called "little question" and two people r arguing about how one says u should have a big cage "like habitat" and another says"smaller is better" and for someone like me, not knowing alot about snakes, it intimidates me. i don’t want to have to leave because i feel i shouldn’t express whats going on. i’m sorry i have absolutely nothing agansit u but i’m i nervous person and don’t want enemies. and like JASON said about some knowing facts and some giving opinions, how do i know who to trust. anyways, boabebe (if i spelled that wrong sorry) i can’t pick it up for a week but i will try to get u some picture (if i can figure out how to get them on the computer) sorry if my comment offened any, that certianly wasn’t my objective i need to learn more about my snake and i have lots of questions see ya, hopefully mel-

I got my first ball python! Ok, and you were close, its BoaBabe. But no one is going to get mad at a snake owner with questions. They just get mad at the people who have different opinions than them (i.e. if I asked a question, then someone said I should do this, and someone said I should do that, they might argue) But beleive me, no one is going to get mad at you for asking a question. What I did for a while, was just ask questions, then I read ALOT of carehseets and looked up alot of stuff, then I started answer other peoples questions so I didn’t get yelled at, but people still get mad at me and say I dont know what I am talking about (i.e. Super Smash, Pelota, JK~). But those are just some people. You most likely won’t get argued with. But, actually the person who says smaller is better, in that post, is correct. Almost no one is going to give "opinions". They are either going to tell you the facts, or say well, when this happened to my snake, I did so-and-so, so in other words, talking from experience. You can trust anyone on this forum, no one is going to give you bad advice.

I got my first ball python! Congrats on your new baby....and as far as your Dad, teach him all you can, never force the snake on him, and eventually he should come around on his own.

I was wondering why Isabella would move to the other side of the tank and stare at me...to think all this time i’ve been in the dog house... i’m really gonna have to make it up to her LOL

I got my first ball python!
BOABABE,everytime my dad goes to bed he asks if my door is closed and for the first couple of nights, he even ran out of his room when my moms leg brushed on his,LOL, because he thoguht it was the snake, my bay is on’y like 20" but i am worried for him, now before he goes to sleep, he comes and fittles with my door nob to make sure the door stays closed (at night we r not aloud to have doors locked,(likeedoom doors) in case of an emergency! but like i don’t think the snake would get out of his cage and then go up a flight of stairs, into a closed bedroom door just to get to my dad! he’s so scared it is somewhat funny, he’s a big strong man afriad of something that will do nothing to him, well nothing more than lobsters have done to him!! i think if the snake ever got out of the cage he would runscreaming from the house telling everyone to go and get it. poor guy!
