Soaking question Ok, this is gonna sound really stupid, but here it goes anyway........ I’ve read alot about soaking the snake. How EXACTLY do you do this? When should it be done? Only after a bad shed or other times? Do you need to hold them while they’re in the water?Details would be appreciated.. Thanks

Soaking question Well, usually you shouldn’t need to soak your snake, unless it’s had a bad shed and you want to help the old skin off. But usually they should have a water bowl in their tank to soak in when they want to. Some also will soak their bp’s once or twice while in the shedding process to help loosen up the skin before the shed. I do this once in a while. What I do is scrub the bathroom sink down so theres no chemicals or soap residue in it. Then I fill the sink up with just enough water for the snake to be submerged, but not have to swim constantly. I then either let the water sit to get to room temperature, or I’ll fill it with warm water(about 85 degrees...you can check it with a digital thermometers probe). Then I gently place the snake in the water and let her soak. Some snakes will hate it, others won’t mind it and will sit calmly. Tonight when I had to bath mine to loosen her up for a shed, and get old mouse guts off of her from last feeding, she went all squirmy and tried getting away. I tried keeping her in it for a few minutes, then took her out, let her slither through a dry towel, and put her back in her tank. There’s really nothing to it. You can use a sink, bath tub, extra rubbermaid container, anything your snake can fit in and soak. You just gotta remember to not make the water too cold or too hot. That’s why I like the digital thermometer probe to see if it’s around 80-85 degrees.

Soaking question Great advice. I like using the rubber maid container because you can put the top on and secure it, and then you don’t have to be right there with the snake the entire time it takes its bath. I drilled lots of small holes in the top and it works great.

Soaking question I have used the bathtub, but lately I have taken to using the shower.....believe it or not. Our shower is a 4 x 4 with glass sliding doors on two sides. I get the water warm, not hot, but warm, and test it with my feet. Then I put Koa in there and close the doors. She gets a lot of humidity this way, and plenty of room to move around, plus I can watch her through the glass. She seems to enjoy it. I have even showered with her a couple of times.....don’t laugh...... Just be sure to towel dry your snake before putting it back.

Soaking question
when my bp sheds i normally soak him in a large plastic critter carrier filled half full with luke warm water. just drop him in. i leave him in for about 45 min to an hour. sometimes bits of the skin come off in the water, but most of the skin will start to come off when you put him back in his cage he will rub up against any object in their . i soak him about every 2 days until i am satisfied with the way he looks. i will tell you they hate to be soaked.
